MORGAN McPHEE; ARTEXPRESS EXHIBITION AT NEWINGTON ARMORY
On Monday March 1st, 2020 Visual Arts student Morgan McPhee with his family attended the opening event for ARTEXPRESS 2021 at the Newington Armory, Sydney Olympic Park. It was a very prestigious event, featuring various political state members and NESA officials.
Morgan’s Visual Arts body of work; ‘Check in, Check out…’ was selected for this exhibition amongst the best in the State. The theme of the exhibition is ‘Threads of connection’. From the Exhibition curator Danielle Gullotta; ARTEXPRESS: 'Threads of connection captures the expression of a cohort of young artists who created bodies of work amidst the catastrophic Australian bushfires of last Summer, the unprecedented impacts of the global pandemic, and the challenges of remote learning and social distancing. The artists are connected through their universal shared experiences of the past year, which raised questions for them around memory, resilience and renewal. Several artists have found inspiration from the unpredictability of life and a reassessment of the way we have lived and interacted in society. There is also an exploration of our threads of connection to the natural world, and our social and mental wellbeing', (as alluded in Morgan’s artmaking.)
The creative, personal and collective challenges these young artists shared in 2020 is unique. The threads of social connection to school, friends, family and life before social distancing took on new significance.
ARTEXPRESS at the Armory is an exhibition comprising major works submitted by HSC Visual Art students. We present it in partnership with the NSW Department of Education, the Arts Unit and the NSW Education Standards Authority. This year's exhibition contains exemplary works by 60 students that were created in the midst of the COVID-19 lockdown. This will be the largest of all the ARTEXPRESS exhibitions, and will showcase works by students from Western Sydney. It runs at the Armory Gallery from 2 March - 25 April 2021.

High quality game where our shots simply did not drop. Good comeback from 12 points down. Will learn more from this loss than a win. If you are not winning, you’re learning! MVP: Wesley Titus (23pts) |

21 - 10 JT Win |
In the gospel of Matthew we are told of the wise man who built his house on the rock. I was reminded of this story as I watched a performance built on the rock of defence. Some teams are all about the flash, they are all about scoring and individual glory...they build their houses on sand. Not this team. We faced another tough competition but we befuddled them with our commitment to the fundamentals, our willingness to sacrifice for the team and our ability to mix things up. During the course of the game we moved from a box and 1, man defence, 3-2 zone and 2-3 zone. Not sure what these mean? Me either. But I felt important yelling them out and the girls did stuff that lead to winning. We remain undefeated. Is this more important than playing with the right spirit? Is it more important than supporting each other? The answer is yes. We are undefeated and all should quake and tremble before us. MVP: Nikita Maika - Teal |
7-9 Boys Volleyball |
Mr Williamson |
1-2 MCCC Win |
Played well, especially to come back in the second set and gain a win. Room for improvement by avoiding simple errors, working on court movement and decision making. MVP: Coby Hilton |
7-9 Girls Volleyball |
Mrs Pellegrino |
0 - 2 MCCC Win |
A slow first set with the JT girls lacking confidence and team spirit against the very experienced Mt Carmel team. After a team pep talk, the girls were dominating the second set with a 7 point lead. After losing the serving advantage, Mt Carmel came in front taking the win of the second set. The JT girls are to be commended on their improvements in the second set, unfortunately it just was not enough to win. MVP: Destiny Carr |
10-12 Girls Oztag |
Mr Tran |
10 - 1 JT Win |

A tough game today against an experienced Mount Carmel team. The boys showed up ready to compete and worked hard for one another to get the victory. Braydon Wickey turned it on for a masterclass in attack with Marley leading the team in defence. A great effort boys well done! MVP : Braydon Wickey |

It was a tough game playing one short against Mount Carmel. The girls tried hard but were outplayed across all facets. Some special mentions, Laura Augustine took 2/-5 off her first over and Bridget Shearer batted twice, contributing 30 runs to our score. We look forward to an improved performance next week. MVP: Bridget Shearer

Y12 Western Sydney University Fast Forward Video Conference.
On Friday 26th February, Thirteen Yr12 students spent the morning online with WSU in order to discuss areas of interest to them. After the initial welcome to all, they were able to join 3 sessions, which they had chosen from a list of options, to gain information on the areas of interest to them. The students were able to ask questions of the presenters and be involved in discussions. These students have been involved in this program since Yr9 and hopefully have a better understanding of what University has to offer.
The TaPP program has started to roll out.
Year 9 and 10 have had their first sessions which used the Profile from “The Careers Department” which gave an indication of possible areas of Industry and Work, to show links between Education and the progression into Work via various paths.
Year 8 and 7 will commence their sessions over the next few weeks. These will examine what Skills and Personal qualities students have and then introduce the Language of Work and what that means for their future.
Students are asked to complete worksheets associated with each session and upload them to the careers program. Parents can work with their child at home on the online program.
