HSC COMMENCES – Finally
Congratulations go to our Year 12 students who had a wonderful start to their HSC exams this week. In a year where, at one stage, they were unlikely to sit for any exams because of the covid pandemic they have shown great resilience in their studies.
We wish all the capacity to show their talents and abilities after such trying times.
MISA DEBATING
Congratulations to our Yr 7 Misa Debating team on taking out the Grand Final against Oran Park Anglican College. Our team (Salomiya Siby, Neha Nishad, Riley McIntyre and Jayden Diamond) came together as the season progressed and took on the advice of coaches, Mrs Roet and Ms Pedder and swept all comers.
The growth in their ability to logically create arguments, rebut the opposition and show determination throughout was sensational. When they functioned as a team they were incredibly powerful. Well done.
COVID RESTRICTIONS
A big thank you to all parent who have visited the College in recent times and have had to put up with the Covid precautions. Signing in so contact tracing requirements are met, sanitising and having temperatures taken. All of these precautions are in the best interests of the students and protecting them but do cause some concern for others.
As we move through this Term the restrictions are constantly changing and easing. We will be communicating with parents as these changes come into action.
Parents and carers will be invited to complete a "Tell them from me" survey shortly. This will seek your perspective as parents on key aspects of College life at John Therry. This is also being completed by teachers and students over the next week, with all responses due by Friday 30th October. We hope you can find the time to provide valuable feedback to inform our future planning.
Welcome to Term 4!
Year 12 2020
The final HSC exams began on Tuesday, 20th October and we wish our students all the best for their remaining exams.
Year 12, 2021
Our students have made a great start to their final year of school. We have been busy finalising course changes, where necessary so learning in all courses can begin without much delay. I wish to reiterate that all their teachers will do their best to support our students through this challenging but exciting year ahead.
Students have received their HSC Assessment Handbook which includes the Assessment Grids for all courses as well as the Assessment Schedule for Term 4 (with dates).
The Assessment Handbook- details the policies/procedures and requirements of the courses. We will go through elements of the Handbook at Year meetings.
The Assessment Grid- is a guide for students to know the tasks, outcomes and weightings for each task
The Assessment Schedule- gives dates for tasks due in Term 4 so students know when, exactly, tasks are due.
Students have soft copies of these documents, as well.
To mark the end of the Year 11 course, we plan to follow the timetable below:
Week 3, Term 4 Tuesday, 27th October, 2020 |
Year 11 Reports distributed |
Week 3, Term 4 Wednesday 28th October 2020 |

Year 11, 2021
We are in the final stages of confirming the course selections made by students for next year. We are hoping our Year 10 students are excited about starting Stage 6 study.
Semester 2 exams and tasks
Weeks 4 to 6 will be busy weeks for our students in years 7 to 10 as most exams and tasks will be ongoing (as per the Assessment Calendar) during this time and till the end of the year.
We wish our Year 10 students, in particular, all the best for their exams and tasks as they will get their RoSA grades at the end of this Term marking the end of Stage 5 learning.
Years 7-9 will also be completing exams and tasks in the coming weeks. We wish them the best of luck, too.
As always, students are expected to be punctual to each exam/task and follow the exam/task protocols. In the case of an illness or misadventure, students are asked to complete the appropriate paperwork and submit it to their teachers or KLA Coordinator on their return to school.
A reminder to our Year 11 Parents that we have Parent Teacher Interviews next Wednesday 28th October from 4:30-7pm. Please check compass or your email for details on how to sign up for interviews. If you have any issues please contact Mr McAllister.
ENERGY DRINKS NOT PERMITTED AT JOHN THERRY
We have had an increasing number of students bringing energy drinks to school, sometimes mutiple, that they are sharing with friends or consuming themselves. Energy drinks are not permitted to be brought into school and consumed onsite due to the impact they can have on behaviour and possible health risks.
Despite the nerves, our Year 7 team argued with conviction and rebutted their little hearts out! Their talents, teamwork and tenacity was inspiring!
What they have achieved as a team is a remarkable milestone that has not only instilled validity and confidence but taught them that perseverance, determination and commitment are the keys to success. Be sure to congratulate Salomiya Siby, Neha Nishad, Riley McIntyre and Jayden Diamond on their wonderful accolade!
A heartfelt thank you to Emily Pedder for her relentless efforts and sensational support. Special mention to Gavan Martyn for his excellent organisation and flexibility. Appreciation to Deb Littlewood on her persistence in ensuring that the MISA Debating competition was possible during Covid restrictions. Gratitude to the John Therry staff for their well wishes and encouragement!
We look forward to next year's MISA Debating Competition as our reigning Champions become the JT Year 8 Team and continue their incredible legacy!
A memorable day in every way!

If contacted by Transport for NSW, details should be submitted online by December 1, 2020 at the latest. Affected students who do not confirm their details in time will have a new School Opal card posted to the address we currently have on file.
The 2020 Year 7 immunisation school program was suspended at the beginning of 2020 due to COVID19, resuming after June.
The required interval between HPV- Gardasil 9 dose 1 and dose 2 is 6 months.
Therefore all Year 7 students who were given HPV – Gardasil Dose 1 from June 2020 onwards will be offered HPV – Gardasil – dose 2 during Term 1, 2021.
There is no need for parents to take their children to the GP as all outstanding 2020 Year 7 vaccinations will be caught up through the school immunisation program in 2021.
