Dear Parents/Guardians,
As we come to the end of Week 4 and almost at the mid-point of the Term, I wonder where the time has gone. The HSC Trials are almost over and the selection process for the 2023 College Leaders is well under way. The Year 10 group also had a highly successful camp this week at The Tops Conference Centre at Stanwell Tops. I ask that all parent support their children in their learning by taking an interest in their work and providing conditions at home that allow them to flourish.
200th ANNIVERSARY OF THE FIRST CATHOLIC MASS IN CAMPBELLTOWN
On Sunday 1st September, 1822, Fr John J Therry celebrated the first local Catholic mass. Originally planned to be held on Mawson Green, a sudden rain storm prevented the outdoor Mass, so the congregation raced to the unfinished St Peter’s Anglican Church nearby.
Fr Therry set about raising funds for the construction of a Catholic Church and on 27th July, 1834 offered the first mass in St John’s Catholic Church.
FEAST OF THE ASSUMPTION – AUGUST 15th
The Assumption of Mary, or simply The Assumption, is the taking up of the body of Virgin Mary to heaven. It signifies the end of her human life on earth. This event is one of the most important events in Christian community. The Assumption of Mary is one of the most relevant among all Marian Feasts and events associated with Mary. This day is considered as the heavenly birthday of the Virgin Mary.
Feast of the Assumption in Australia
The Assumption is a holy day of obligation. In Australia, Christian people are obliged to go to the church to attend the services in line with the Feast of the Assumption. The churches in Australia, especially the images of the Blessed Virgin Mary, are decorated with flowers and candles. In most cases, processions and parades are also organized by the ministry of church.
The readings, sermons and teachings in the Christian churches talks about lifting of the human body from the Blessed Virgin Mary to the heaven during the Feast of the Assumption of Mary. In Christian or Catholic schools, the students are taught of the story of the Assumption of Mary. There are also school activities that encourage the students to learn more about the story of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
The Orthodox community also celebrates the Assumption. They have fourteen-days of fasting in preparation to the celebration of taking up of human body of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
On Monday 15 August 2022 we celebrate the Feast of the Assumption - our Catholic belief that Mary was taken, body and soul, to enjoy eternal life. In celebrating this feast, the Church recalls how Mary’s life on earth ended - an apparent perfect ending to a perfectly lived life of grace and so in honouring her passing, we also honour her living.
What do we learn from Mary through the living of her life?
In a real and powerful way, Mary shows all of us what it means to live a life totally alive in Christ with an undivided will to participate in God’s purpose for her and for the world. Mary demonstrates a complete freedom and intention to place herself without reservation at the service of Christ and God’s kingdom. Her freedom to say ‘yes’ and respond to God’s call is unconditional and does not need to see the future outcome before trusting. Mary embraces God’s call and choice of her and needs nothing more to commit.
In the fullness of her faith and womanhood, Mary shows us that faith does not separate us from the world but actually makes us more open to and connected to it. With her ‘yes’ given in the mess of life’s circumstances, the midst of precariousness and unrecognised relationships or domestic life and poverty, she stands in solidarity with the poor and the victims of oppression, of gossip, of exclusion; with all those who, like her, have had to hold a dead child in their arms or flee their home for protection or asylum for their families.
This woman of Nazareth shines for those who always believe that God is in the mess and even in the darkness of suffering and death.
Mary shows us a glimpse of how the life of grace makes us more human and that in God’s presence we become completely ourselves; fully alive in body and soul. On this feast we celebrate her unique role as a true disciple of Jesus.
In Mary’s assumption, we stand on the promise that we can each make a difference in this world. (From CEDoW – CLEM team).
As you celebrate this Feast of the Assumption, how will you take up God’s invitation without having to know the outcome or the future?
A true expression of faith!

In week 3, year 11 Biology students went to the Mount Annan Botanical Gardens for a Biological Diversity Case Study day. Students engaged in 3 sessions at the Australian PlantBank. The first session involved students investigating the behavioural and structural adaptations of Australian native plants. In the second session, students engaged in a first hand investigation that explored the adaptations of Australian animals. In the third session, students were lucky enough to meet some animals from Taronga Zoo and listened to a lecture about adaptations of Australian animals.
Over the last few weeks, Year 9 have participated in the Youth Aware of Mental Health (YAM) program which is an evidence-based program developed to promote mental health, resilience and help-seeking amongst young people.
Did you know??
- In Australia, 70% of mental illness and suicidal behaviours begin between the ages 12-25 years?
- Almost 2 in 5 people aged 16-24 yrs experienced a mental disorder in 2020-2021?
- Anxiety disorders were the most common among young people?
The last few years have been challenging for all John Therry students with remote learning, the cancellation of many events and the ongoing changes that the teenage years bring. In this program, students have had the opportunity to discuss common problems that they may face and how they can make them feel. They have learnt about different experiences and events and had the opportunity to think about how they can help themselves and others when coming across similar challenges. Our cohort are able to recognise when they need support and what they can do in specific situations if they were to arise.
Hear from some of our students about their experience with the YAM program.
“During the Youth Aware of Mental Health (YAM) Program, we explored the ideas of expressing feelings, giving advice, listening to others, and coping strategies, as well as different role-playing scenarios that outlook mental challenges. We discussed mental health and how there are a variety of ways to manage it. Throughout this experience, we were able to discuss the ways in which we can comfort those going through difficult times, “Sometimes the best thing you can do is just listen”. YAM has offered ways for teenagers to get in contact with people, guiding them along their personal mental health journey.” - Laura and Georgia
“It was a lot more interactive than I thought it would be and it was really fun. We got to role play and get to know each other” - Alexander
“I liked being open to share your own opinions and being able to learn from it” - Maximo
I hope that this experience can help break down the stigma around mental health and we can work together as a support network for our JTCC Community. Your mental health is just as important as your physical health. If you or someone in your life needs help or advice, there are several organisations that provide support:

Year 7
In Year 7, students are having their first introduction to formal Algebra. They are learning the methods and rules that are associated with working with Algebra and are curious about where it is used in everyday life. Very soon, they will be moving on to focus on the mathematics involved in simple probability experiments.
Year 8
Year 8 students this term will be explicitly taught different problem solving strategies (draw a diagram, guess, check and refine, use a formula/working backwards, using knowledge of mathematical concepts), through their unit on volume. All students are using RUTAC as a tool to identify key information before devising and carrying out their plan when solving worded problems.
Year 9
Year 9 students on the 5.1 pathway are currently working on the fundamental skills associated with Area and Surface Area. These students will be putting these in context by calculating renovation costs for an area in their home.
Students on the Stage 5.2 and 5.3 pathway continue their study of single variable data and will very shortly be producing a newspaper article that presents some findings from the recently released 2021 Australian Census data. Students are able to choose data on a topic of their choice, including sports participation, gaming statistics or ABS data on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and will need to synthesise and present the data in a manner that is easily accessible to the general public.
Year 10
Students in Year 10 are preparing to submit a video tutorial on the topic Non-Linear Relationships. The idea is that their video is designed to teach their peers about different types of Non-Linear Relationships such as Parabolas, Circles and Hyperbolas. Students are excited to demonstrate their knowledge through a different medium.
Year 11
Our students in the Year 11 Advanced course have recently completed their assignment using Trigonometry to plan an effective music festival:
Our semester 1 take home assignment required us to design a concert ground using numerous trigonometric concepts to calculate metrics which would adequately meet set requirements.
This assignment allowed me to apply mathematical concepts in real world situations. Finally, a maths assignment which allowed me to incorporate both critical thinking and problem solving as well as creative touches. My concert grounds were located within Sydney’s The Domain - Phillip Precinct. Various site issues were present such as the M1 Motorway which brought about considerable noise pollution issues. Moreover, when choosing the seat section of the concert grounds, I had to consider the effects of image desaturation on the audience when viewing the concert screen from different positions.
After completing extensive research I was able to collate my information, presenting accurately plotted concert grounds depicting locations of critical infrastructure (see below) with justification to these specific allocations.
(Extract from assignment)
The mathematical concepts studied in class were critical to my success in this assignment as they were all applied in my calculations. I owe a thanks to my teacher, Mr Muscatello, for his continuous support over the duration of the assignment. I thoroughly enjoyed this assignment and readily tackled the challenges that arose when completing it.
Jett Smith – Year 11
Students in the Standard course completed their assignment by conducting a survey of other students in their cohort about their screen time:
Students within the Standard Maths cohort were tasked with conducting a survey in order to find data in relation to screen time of their peers. Students were tasked with collecting data from the maths cohort using two of four different forms of sampling methods, including: Systematic, Self Selected, Capture-recapture and Stratified. With these two forms of sampling methods students were asked to find data relating to screen time of the individual including Weekly Screen time, Daily Average and Most Used App. From the data collected, students used appropriate formulas in order to find the measures of spread and central tendency which would form the basis for the graphs to be constructed. Students represented this data through various graphical representations including stem and leaf plots, frequency table and histograms, dot plots and Pareto charts. Since the nature of the task being a mathematical investigation, and having to conduct our own research, the task was unique to each student. It was this that made the task interesting rather than simply having another topic test or exam each term.
An example of Self- Selected Data collected from 20 students
Pareto Chart displaying the most used app of 20 students.
When applying the 80/20 rule the most significant data is Snapchat and Tiktok which make up 80% of the data.
We wish our Year 12 students all the best as they continue their preparation for their upcoming Trial HSC exams in Week 4.

JTCC SPORT UPDATE - Term 3, Week 3 & 4
Term 3 has started off so well for our JTCC athletes, with a strong start in our MISA competition. JTCC also performed really well at the Diocesan Netball and Athletics Carnivals, with all athletics representing our community with pride and integrity. We had a number of standout performances at athletics, with a strong contingent being selected in the Wollongong Diocese team to compete at the NSWCCC Athletics Championship in September.
Week four has been incredibly busy for sporting commitments, with the MISA Golf Tournament, a number of students volunteering as referees at the second primary school touch gala day, and a small group of U16 girls and two of our teachers Liz Dadd and Paul Strojny attending a NRL coaching and skills clinic organised by MISA. A report of this will be in our next newsletter.
A few general reminders:
- Students who missed out on MISA or DIO teams , there are many future opportunities to represent JTCC, keep an eye out on the Compass Newsfeed.
- Any students that would like to request to change groups for 9/10 REC - you need to see Mrs. Roberts at the Sports Office. You must do this prior to Tuesday lunch time.
- A reminder that consent for all sporting events must be given via the Parent Portal on Compass. Please ring the school if you have issues logging in or accessing Events.
Week 3 - ROUND 2
Staff | Sport | Score | Report |
ACN | 10-12 BOYS IND Cricket | vs. MCCC108-52 WIN | Another fantastic win for the John Therry boys who are gelling really well as a team. We bowled and fielded to a high standard and were able to restrict Mt. Carmel to just 52 runs. We batted conservatively and chipped away at the total, scoring 108 runs without much risk. MVP/Most Improved: Kalan Nau |
CWE | 10-12 GIRLS SOFTBALL | vs. St. Pats 3-5 LOSS | Firstly I would like to give a massive shout out to all of the girls who stepped up in substitution of many of our regular team members who were out on a scheduled excursion. Both teams were new to the sport and willingly took on coaching instructions from both coaches. The game was played with great spirit with some impressive hits by Makerita and Lily.Unfortunately we did not come away with the win, however all present had a most enjoyable afternoon of competitive softball. |
MTN | U15 BOYS LEAGUE | vs. MCCC30 -8 WIN | The sun was shining bright beams of sunlight, the birds were singing beautiful melodic tunes and the JTCC U15's Rugby were putting their stamp on the competition with a comprehensive performance. Wonderful team football ensured that each player on the field shined as bright as the sun. Jerome Gargoles, Cole Worden and Chaise Attard were aggressive in the middle of the pitch, consistently bending the defensive line. This allowed for Jordan Truckle to be powerful and elusive out wide with an impressive 3 tries. MVP: Sunshine and Jerome Gargoles |
BGO | 10-12 BOYS AFL 12's | vs. MCCC71-14 WIN | On a muddy pitch, the JT lads had a dig. Strong middle play through Noah and Coby allowed simple attacking opportunities for Angus and Trae. Tough defense from Benny and Lucas, as well as Zac and Paul, restricted Mount Carmel to only 14 points. Full credit to the boys’ effort in their first game of the comp.MVP: Coby Hilton |
SPO | 10-12 GIRLS AFL 12's | vs. MCCC23- 28 LOSS | JT girls took on a tough Mount Carmel team today. Amongst a muddy field, down a few players and for a lot of the girls being their first time playing AFL, they showed grit and determination to keep the score close but were unfortunately defeated. Kaylee Pritchard from year 10 was the lead scorer with two goals followed by Montanna Taff scoring her first AFL goal as well. These girls were strongly assisted by our mid-fielders with special mentions for Zarli Lakeman and Tess Mcevoy-King. A great first match for the girls, who are keen to get back out there and better themselves next week. Well done girls!MVP: Zarli Lakeman |
JAS | 9-10 GIRLS NETBALL | BYE
EPR | 7-8 GIRLS NETBALL | vs. MACC8-30LOSS | Round 2 MISA saw the 7/8 Netball team take on MACC. John therry played a hard game with determination and never gave up despite their setbacks. The good sportsmanship displayed by the girls made them strong representatives of JT and its great to see this team becoming closer team mates each week. Seeing the girls support each other from the side lines is always a highlight for me. Our MVP this week is Eliza Dacich for her continuous positive attitude and support for team mates. MVP: Eliza Dacich |
BJY | 7-9 GIRLS SOCCER | BYE
NWN | 7-8 BOYS SOCCER | vs. BAC4-1 WIN | A good first up game where we proved to be the much better team. A lack of finesse around the penalty area in the opening stanza led to a 1-1 half time scoreline. We converted our chances, and were gifted another, in the second half. Well done to Davonne, Brooklyn, Charbel and Aiden for scoring the goals but they came about through great team effort.MVP. Brooklyn Osborne |
BWB | 9-10 BOYS SOCCER | BYE |
Week 4 - ROUND 3
Staff | Sport | Score | Report |
ACN | 10-12 BOYS IND Cricket | vs. MAS49-126LOSS | A hard fought match against MAC. We were sent in to bat and never really got any solid partnerships going. As a result we set a sub par total. When bowling, we started well, however, our fielding let us down as we failed to capitalise and we missed too many runout chances. The effort was there, but unfortunately we weren’t good enough on the day. MVP: Bailey White |
CWEDHA | 10-12 GIRLS SOFTBALL | vs. MCCC10-12LOSS | Great effort by all with four newbies filling in. Some determined play during the game saw us do well but more experienced opposition were too good!MVP: Ericka Gentle |
MTN | U15 BOYS LEAGUE | vs. MAG30-8WIN | Excellent performance from all involved today with multiple players missing. Magdalene performed well and offered resistance in defense, however the John Therry boys were able to overcome early errors to race away with a strong victory. Mitchell Lane made some excellent decisions which opened up avenues for the forwards through the middle and the backs out wide. Cory McKay had an excellent performance playing centre with multiple line breaks and strong tackles.MVP: Cory McKay |
BGO | 10-12 BOYS AFL 12's | vs. MAG50-24WIN | A couple of debutants didn’t hinder the boys' performance in what were great conditions at Monarch Oval. Accurate goal kicking from all the boys meant we were able to build a strong lead. Strong defense from Wagun, Levi and Adam anchored the team while Dechlan, Marley and Noah were strong up front. A special shout-out to Brendan for copping some friendly fire and Sam for looking sharp in his headgear. Final score John Therry 8.2.50 vs Magdalene 3.6.24MVP: Luke Denniss |
SPOTMN | 10-12 GIRLS AFL 12's | vs. MAG32-16WIN | The AFL girls played their second game this week against Magdalene. With several players out due to year 10 camp and year 12 exams, the girls took the field with nine players. They finished off the first half one point ahead and went on to play a brilliant second half finishing 16 points ahead. Final score was 32-16. The girls represented John Therry well with compliments from the referee regarding their skill and sportsmanship. Special thanks to Wadaha from year 11 for filling in.MVP: Chelsea Blankenstein. |
JAS | 9-10 GIRLS NETBALL | vs. MCCC5-26LOSS | 11This week was a tough week for the 9/10 team with year 10 being out on camp, leaving us with 5 girls. With some fierce year 8’s filling in we took on Mount Carmel and put up a valiant effort, however going down 26-5. Georgia Bastock and Annelise Hall fought hard in the second half, turning ball over and moving it down the court towards our attacks, stopping MCCC’s lead from getting any further. Our shooting end with Mia Drayton and Navara Mataipule moved well to try and create space. Some errors in our attack end saw MCCC’s defence hold our score to 5. The girls played well and are looking forward to a full strength team next week. MVP: Annelise Hall |
EPR | 7-8 GIRLS NETBALL | vs. MAS20-11WIN | The girls played a superstar game today against MAS. Each quarter saw the shooters warming up and scoring more goals to contribute to the 20-11 win. The defence end did a great job of catching any rebounds and putting pressure on the other team. Well done to our MVP Sophie Regan. MVP Sophie Regan. |
BJY | 7-9 GIRLS SOCCER | vs. MCCC1-2 LOSS | The first game of the term for our girls in year 7-9 for MISA and we came back with a respectably close defeat. Having been knocked out of the Bill Turner Cup by the same team by quite a margin, it took a lot of mental fortitude and preparation to approach the game with the elite mentality that the girls did. Even though we were down by one goal very early, we still pushed on creating some great chances before captain Jorja Hohberg netted a brilliant tight angle finish. Despite some decent attempts from their players, our goalkeeper Darcie Bennett made some incredible saves worthy of the highlight reel, making her the well-deserved match MVP. Unfortunately, the opposition managed to break through once more towards the dying minutes to steal the lead with a wonder-goal. Considering the gap in the scoreline last time we played against the team, the girls played a fantastic game this time and showed incredible improvement to keep the game so tight.MVP: Darcie Bennett |
NWN | 7-8 BOYS SOCCER | vs. MCCC5-0 WIN | 0-0 at half time but the flood gates opened in the last 15 minutes with goals to Jaidon, Charbel, Cooper, Maahir and Davonne. Difficult conditions due to soggy conditions with variable bounce but we did well to stay composed and find a way through the opposition's defense.MVP. Blake Neale |
BWBLBR | 9-10 BOYS SOCCER | vs. MCCC0-3LOSS | With 90% of our team missing due to Year 10 camp, I was fortunate enough to have a large number of Year 9 boys volunteer to step in and play for the week. Despite losing 3-0, the boys should be proud of their efforts against a strong Mt Carmel side. Cohan, Robbie, Bobby and Mitchelwere all very strong in the midfield and produced some good opportunities for us to score. Our two centre backs Norman and Deegan were also solid and successfully defended copious amounts of chances from Mt Carmel. There were several students who stepped in at the last minute and played without boots and socks, highlighting how keen they were to play. Despite this we were very competitive and were unfortunate not to score a few goals ourselves. Well done boys and thank you for representing John Therry. MVP - Cohan Timmer |
MISA GOLF
Finally after a two year hiatus the MISA Golf Tournament was able to go ahead. It was a beautiful day at Camden Lakeside Golf Club, with Mr. Hatton and Mrs. Roberts from John Therry CC in charge of the day with the fantastic assistance of Gemma Brislane from Magdalene CC. A big thank you to Deb Littlewood for all her work behind the scenes to get this event up and running.
Camden proved to be a tough, long course but despite this students displayed some fantastic skills and hit some great shots. Our two JTCC representatives; Frankie (Year 12) and Kobey (Year 8) did exceptionally well, both receiving a trophy in their respective divisions.

Diocesan Athletics Carnival
On Friday 29th July 2022, John Therry sent 60+ students to compete at the Diocesan Athletics Carnival held at Campbelltown Stadium. We also sent 20 Year 11 Sports, Lifestyle and Recreation students to assist with the running of the day. These helpers were highly commended for their efforts and ensured the carnival was successful. Overall, John Therry performed well, finishing in 5th place overall with 546 total points. Our males finished with 334 points and our females with 212 points. There were several standout performances from our students which have been listed below.
Our students consistently tried their best in all their events, with several students stepping up and filling in for some absent students on the day. It was also excellent to see Year 12 and Year 11 students on the day setting a positive example for our junior students, always motivating and encouraging our students in everything they did.
The strength of our students was on full display when we were able to field six relay teams across all age groups and genders at the conclusion of the carnival. We had some great results and some near misses in our relay teams. Our senior boys will be left wondering what if? With the senior boys in a commanding lead at the final change, an unfortunate collision on the final turn robbed them of a certain victory. Overall, the day was a success, with several students being selected into the Diocesan to compete at the NSWCCC Carnival. Thank you for a great day.
The following students have been selected into the Wollongong Diocesan Team for the following events:
- Maka Angianga - 1st Place - 13 Boys - Shot Put

Diocesan Netball Championship
9- 10 Intermediate Girls
MVP: Maddison Ryde, Georgia Bastock and Navara Mataipule
Bottom row (left to right): Shanae de Vos, Grace O’Reilly, Ayla Cook, Mary-Agnes Fatialofa
Top row (left to right): Maddison Ryde, Sarah Jansz, Fisiliila Angianga, Navara Mataipule, Allyssa Barry, Georgia Bastock, Ashley Doyle, Gese Satuatasi and Mrs Jessica Bulger.
It was a very exciting day for the 9 and 10 Intermediate Diocesan netball team. We began the day with a strong win against St Josephs. The Intermediate team demonstrated their strength, using high intensity in defense to turn over the ball to gain possession than immense control in being able to switch from the high intensity to a controlled, well thought out attacking game. This win was very well deserved and set a great tone for the carnival.
The intermediate division 1 competition was of an exceptionally high standard of Netball across all teams. Each game played could have gone in either team's favour. The Intermediate Team were successful to secure another win against St Johns and finish the day with a close game against Magdalene, losing by two goals in the end. After a total of 9, 20 minute games, the Intermediate Team placed 8th out of 10 Division 1 Teams.
I am extremely proud of this Team. The score board was not a true reflection of the effort and ability they demonstrated on court. If you were a spectator, you would have been truly impressed by the skill, determination and energy each player brought to each game. I received much feedback from other coaches about the level of competitiveness our Team had and the excitement of the game that had been played. The talent and versatility of each player was wonderful to watch and is rare to be able to coach. I am blessed to have had the opportunity to work with this group of students and I hope to be able to coach them again in the future.
Coach - Mrs Jessica Bulger
7/ 8 Division 2 Girls
MVP: Ava HIlton
Left to right- Miss Durrington (Coach), Mia Drayton, Tahlia Sutton, Ella Cohr, Maddison Burke, Ruby Lipscombe, Lily Atkins, Elyse Stonebridge, Ava Hilton
Our Year 7 & 8 Division 2 team had a flying start to the day winning the first 4 games. The girls demonstrated exceptional skills in shooting goals, a special mention to Lily, Tahlia and Mia for showcasing their amazing skills in the goal third.
Throughout the day the girls never gave up even when they were playing stronger teams. Our team had 9 games throughout the day where they versed a range of teams with different skill sets. The girls worked together as a team and had exceptional communication skills on the court. Ava Hilton was the MVP of the day being a pocket rocket in centre position and not only defending the other team but also allowing the ball to work through mid court to get into the goal circle.
Each team member was extremely valuable on the day in defending the other teams as well as working together as a team to win 5 out of 9 games.
I am extremely proud of the Division 2 team as they came together fantastically as a new team and allowed each girl to work to their skill set and support each other throughout the course of the day.
Coach- Miss Molly Durrington
11-12 Senior Girls
MVP: Sokowa Parker, Ella Drayton
Bottom row (left to right): Ella Drayton, Samara Varga
Top row (left to right): Miss Adams, Sokowa Parker, Chantel Gill, Kaitlin Kellett, Amylia Mckenzie, Madison Tonna, Erica Powell
The girls had a great day at the Diocesan Netball Carnival, which has been looked forward to since 2019 and the last school netball carnival for our Year 12 girls.
The girls played a total of 8 games across the day competing in the Division 1 competition against high calibre teams from across the Illawarra and Macarthur regions. As a team the girls worked well together throwing all their skills at each team they played. The girls had an exceptional win against St Benedicts and some particularly close wins against Magdalene and St Johns, overall the girls finished 8th out of 9 teams in Division 1.
I am extremely proud of this team and the way they have come together over the last term. It has been a pleasure to coach them and watch them improve each week during MISA and use those skills in each game at the netball carnival.
Coach - Miss Adams
Year 7 & 8 Junior Girls Div 1
MVP: Hannah Epple & Courtney Doyle
Bottom row (left to right): Chloe Donovan, Sophie Regan and Lara Edwards.
Top row (left to right): Ms Pedder, Amelia Smith, Courtney Doyle, Eliza Dacich, Ella Bainbridge, Nevaeh Metcalfe, Hannah Epple and Anabelle Konn.
Year 7 & 8 began their netball season attending the Dio Carnival on Monday the 25th of July, their first time representing JT in netball. Their first time playing as a team, the girls began strong and stayed motivated and proud until the end. Over the day their skills and communication as a team improved, and each game saw them working harder to play their best.
The girls competed in the division 1 competition, playing 9 games on the day challenged by schools across the Macarthur and Illawarra region. The girls started strong with a win in their first game against St Josephs, followed by wins against Corpus Christi, St Benedicts and Mt Carmel. Overall the team finished 6th on the day.
The girls gave a tremendous and tireless effort the whole day, and I couldn’t be prouder of the way they represented JT. We have learnt our strengths as a team, and I am looking forward to seeing these girls play in the MISA competition this term.
Coach - Ms Pedder

Who are Milk Crate?
Milk Crate Theatre provides opportunities for people whose voices are under-represented to engage in artistic practice to build confidence, skills and connections; and shares bold and resonant stories to build empathy and break down barriers.
They are the leading arts organisation in Australia working in the unique intersection of the arts, homelessness, mental health, and disability, providing professional development pathways and opportunities for collaborative artists to engage in creative practices as both performers and theatre and film creators of works.
Milk Crate Theatre is a company that has also written a HSC Drama text.
Synopsis
A group of individuals find themselves trapped in a country motel during a dust storm, seemingly blown in by the arrival of a self-professed travelling sage.
As they are forced to share space, each person finds themselves at a point of reckoning with their own sense of purpose. Old wounds are exposed, deceptions uncovered, and new dreams nervously announced - the charlatan taking unashamed pleasure in provoking his fellow prisoners in this veritable cave.
How do you know what you know? What is the truth anyway? Do you know what else is out there?!
DUST is an intimate and immersive experience of theatre, movement, lighting and sound, with nods to Outback Noir, the teachings of Plato, Surrealism, and The Breakfast Club.
