Who are Milk Crate?
Milk Crate Theatre provides opportunities for people whose voices are under-represented to engage in artistic practice to build confidence, skills and connections; and shares bold and resonant stories to build empathy and break down barriers.
They are the leading arts organisation in Australia working in the unique intersection of the arts, homelessness, mental health, and disability, providing professional development pathways and opportunities for collaborative artists to engage in creative practices as both performers and theatre and film creators of works.
Milk Crate Theatre is a company that has also written a HSC Drama text.
Synopsis
A group of individuals find themselves trapped in a country motel during a dust storm, seemingly blown in by the arrival of a self-professed travelling sage.
As they are forced to share space, each person finds themselves at a point of reckoning with their own sense of purpose. Old wounds are exposed, deceptions uncovered, and new dreams nervously announced - the charlatan taking unashamed pleasure in provoking his fellow prisoners in this veritable cave.
How do you know what you know? What is the truth anyway? Do you know what else is out there?!
DUST is an intimate and immersive experience of theatre, movement, lighting and sound, with nods to Outback Noir, the teachings of Plato, Surrealism, and The Breakfast Club.
