We invite all parents to attend our P&F meeting on Tuesday 8th June at 6:30pm. At this meeting we will discuss proposed changes to the school uniform including girls pants options, Vaping as a societal issue, and school improvements that are underway and planned for the future.
We hope to see some new faces and all are welcome to attend. The meeting will take place in the staff common room that is just beside the main office.
Year 7 2022 Enrolments closing
Year 7 enrolment offers will be finalised for 2022 next week for letters to be posted at the end of Week 9. We have over 230 applications for next year with more coming in each day. Once offers have been posted, any further applications will be placed onto a waitlist, including for siblings and students that are in our feeder schools. If you know anyone who still needs to apply, please ask them to contact the office urgently.
Sorry Day Service
Sorry Day acknowledges the hurt of the Aboriginal people who were forcibly removed from their families and communities, often referred to as the stolen generation. It is important as a nation that we learn from our past and acknowledge the wrongs that have occured as part of the healing process. This can help ensure we work towards reconciliation and mutual understanding amongst all Australians.
John Therry participated in a Sorry Day Service led by Sr Kerry at the Church of the Holy Trinity in Minto on Thursday. It was a lovely service that had students from schools across the region leading the activites of the day. John Therry students played a key role in many aspects of the service and represented themselves and their school with great pride.
At John Therry we will continue to encourage Aboriginal students to embrace and celebrate their culture, and have all students learn the beautiful lessons and great gifts of the oldest civilisation on earth.
At the start of Term 2, the Year 11 and Year 12 students received their mid-term reports. At the College assembly, this week, we recognised the efforts and diligence of our students - 25 of our HSC students who ranked 1st in their HSC courses and 8 of our Year 11 students who received 4 or more 'A' grades. Congratulations to our high achievers.
A LETTER TO MY MOTHER
By Eva Johnson
I not see you long time now, I not see you long time now
White fulla bin take me from you, I don’t know why
Give me to Missionary to be God’s child.
Give me new language, give me new name
All time I cry, they say—‘that shame’
I go to the city down south, real cold
I forget all them stories, my Mother you told
Gone is my spirit, my dreaming, my name
Gone to these people, our country to claim
They gave me white mother, she give me new name
All time I cry, she say—‘that shame’
I not see you long time now, I not see you long time now.
I grow as Woman now, not Piccaninny no more
I need you to teach me your wisdom, your lore
I am your Spirit, I’ll stay alive
But in white fulla way, you won’t survive
I’ll fight for Your land, for your Sacred sites
To sing and to dance with the Brolga in flight
To continue to live in your own tradition
A culture for me was replaced by a mission
I not see you long time now, I not see you long time now.
One day your dancing, your dreaming, your song
Will take my your Spirit back where I belong
My Mother, the earth, the land—I demand
Protection from aliens who rule, who command
For they do not know where our dreaming began
Our destiny lies in the laws of White Man
Two Women we stand, our story untold
But now as our spiritual bondage unfold
We will silence this Burden, this longing, this pain
When I hear you my Mother give me my Name
I not see you long time now, I not see you long time now.

10-12 BOYS LEAGUE D1 |
Mr. McGrath |
Win vs Freeman 24-10 |
What a difference one week makes! A completely different team ran out this week, showing off the skill that they’re capable of displaying week in week out. The boys played with so much confidence, with Sam P leading the pack in defence, pulling off some big hits to inspire his team mates. Let’s back this up next week with another stellar performance against All Saints. MVP: Sam Prakhounheuang |
10-12 GIRLS IND Cricket |
Mr. Winter |
Win vs MCCC 38-3 |
The girls never looked like they were going to lose with the final score being 38-3 to JTCC. A massive effort from Grace Augustine with 25 of the runs to give the team a comfortable lead at the start of the match. Also dominating in the field was Grace Tutunoa with 2 catches and 2 wickets that slowed down Mount Carmel’s attack. This effort led Grace T to becoming MVP for this match. Well done to all the girls for their continued win streak. MVP - Grace Tutunoa |
10-12 BOYS SOFTBALL |
Mr. Chapman |
Loss vs SBCC 3-2 |
A great game of softball, but a disappointing loss for JT. We led 2-0 for the majority of the game before letting the lead slip right at the death. Jack Sell MVP with an amazing double play. MVP - Jack Sell |
11-12 GIRLS NETBALL |
Ms. Adams |
Loss vs MCCC 17-26 |
The JT girls came out strong against MCCC today for round 5. The attacks, Shanae Leech-Morrison at centre and Ella Drayton at wing attack were strong on their drives to circle and pinpoint passes into Nikita Maika-Teal who’s solid hold and shooting arm allowed JT to stay within reach of MCCC, being only 2 points behind at 3 quarter time. However, in the 4th quarter MCCC put their foot down and and ran away with the win. MVP - Nikita Maika-Teal |
11-12 BOYS SOCCER |
Mr. Fogarty |
Win vs MCCC 3-0 |
A dominant performance by John Therry throughout the whole match for a 3-0 win. There were strong performances from Adam Redzic, Bukhosi Nkala, Josef Treiblmayr and Jayden Cook. Well done boys. MVP - Jayden Cook |
10-12 GIRLS SOCCER |
Mr. Holmes |
Loss vs MCCC 4-0 |
Another great game played by the John Therry Girls Misa soccer team. Throughout the game the girls displayed great defense to stop Mount Carmel from scoring. We had some strong tackles and determination from all players. We were close to scoring a couple of goals towards the end of the game with some good football played. Kiara had a good start and almost scored, however an ongoing knee issue stopped her from getting a goal today. An outstanding first game from Kylee with her pace and defensive efforts, not bad for her first ever game. Emilie played well in midfield alongside Mariella and Caitlin. The new year 11 addition to the team fit into the system well and Tahlia had a great return at CB. Chelsea played in goals for the first time and had an excellent game, saving the team numerous times and making some crucial saves and thus deserved our MVP award. Shontay and Charli provided great support in defence and the famous Anthony twins played well on the flanks with Jorja almost scoring by chipping the keeper from a header! Great effort for all the girls on a warm afternoon with limited subs. MVP - Chelsea Blankenstein |
7-9 BOYS BASKETBALL |
Mr.Peters |
Win vs MCCC 48-22 |
Outstanding result, only two points difference at half time. We turned it on in the second half with a dominant display by all, focussed on defensive pressure. MVP - Adrian Narvais |
7-9 GIRLS BASKETBALL |
Mr. Jefferys |
Loss vs MCCC 23-10 |
Final game of the season saw us lose 23-10. The girls played really well and left their best game for last. Our defence was great at times and the girls have improved so much over the last 6 weeks. With no year 9 students in our team we have learnt a lot for next year. MVP: Alexis Paulo |
7-9 BOYS HOCKEY |
Mr. Webb |
Win vs MCCC 1-0 |
After a bye last week and an intense training session the boys went back to back with another 1 - 0 win. After a shakey start to the match with a good save from Jacob in goals the boys fought their way into the game. After a 10 minutes period of dominating Harrison K scored the winning goal from some great build up play from Darcy Wilson. We held onto the lead with some strong defensive presence by Diego Martin. Well done to all the players. MVP - Diego Martin |
7-9 MIXED FRISBEE |
Mrs. Stanley |
Win vs MCCC 22-6 |
After a training session during the week with some of our seniors, we went into the game with a new found confidence. Our defence was exceptional knocking down passes, marking up and crowding the frisbee. We also found our skills in passing, after learning the “whipping tea towel” technique from Filemu. We were able to get ahead early, we were looking more and more comfortable playing together and progressing up the field, we did a great job to come away with a convincing win this week. We still have a few things to work on with our presence in defence and our confidence refereeing the game but an outstanding improvement from last week and the way we played together as a team. MVP - Benjamin Anderson |
Rugby League
Last week we had 3 students attend the NSWCCC Rugby League Selections in Sydney, with two students successfully selected. Riley Oitmann was selected in the U15 NSWCCC Team and Noah McKenzie selected in the NSWCCC Country Development Team.
AFL
A big congratulations to Coby Hilton, who was successfully selected in the U15 NSW All Schools AFL Merit Team after representing NSWCCC in Albury. Coby was one of only a handful from the NSWCCC team to be selected, which is a credit to his skill and ability despite playing some really tough opposition.
