7-10 PARENT TEACHER INTERVIEWS
On Wednesday 31st March and Thursday 1st April we have an opportunity for parents and carers of students in Year 7-10 to meet with teachers and discuss Term 1 progress. Students will receive their Interim Reports on Wednesday 31st March to discuss at these meetings.
Details for the interviews are listed below.
Wednesday 31st March - Face to Face Interviews - School Hall - 3:30-7:30pm (Dinner Break for staff from 5:30-6pm)
Thursday 1st April - Zoom meetings - 8:30am to 11am.
Instructions for booking these interviews has been sent out via email.
Year 11 and 12 students will have an opportunity to meet teachers mid next term on the 17th May after their reports have been distributed.
This is an important opportunity to celebrate achievements and discuss how each child can progress and improve with their learning and we hope to see you there.
AN IMPORTANT NOTE TO ALL YEAR 7 PARENTS
Due to NESA guidelines we are required to enrol the Year 7 Chromebooks into our Diocese in order for your child to access NAPLAN online for this year and for year 9 2023.
What this will mean for you is that any parental code that you have used to lock the device will be wiped and that only email addresses ending with @dowstu.catholic.edu.au can log into the device.
Personal email accounts for example that end in @gmail.com will not be able to login to the Chromebook.
I understand that this is not ideal but this is the only option in order for your child to complete NAPLAN which is a state wide compulsory test.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me - Hamish Jefferys Teacher Librarian & Learning Technology Coordinator.
P & F Meeting - Tuesday Week 9 - 23rd March - 6:30-7:30pm
We welcome parents and carers to join us at our P&F meeting on Tuesday 23rd March at 6:30pm in the staff common room (next to the front office).
Meet Mr Marshall and learn more about what is happening at John Therry. All are welcome and we hope to see you there.
There will be the option to zoom in and you can register for this by emailing mcallisterb01@dow.catholic.edu.au requesting zoom access.

10-12 Boys Basketball |
Mr Peters |
70 - 20 JT Win |
Excellent performance, far more confident and aggressive. The result was underpinned by suffocating defensive pressure with great teamwork with each player knowing their roles. MVP: Wesley Titus |
10-12 Girls Basketball |
Mr Conway |
27 - 6 JT Win |
As the game commenced I started to think of the story of Icarus. Had we flown too close to the sun? These fears grew deeper and deeper when the opposition scored the first points of the game. I felt our wings melt away. Had all my boasting come to haunt me? Should I cancel payment on the ‘world’s best coach’ mug that I bought myself? My doubts proved silly as we destroyed the opposition. Aided by a fantastic effort from all the team we were able to stem the tide and impose our will upon the game. In the end we destroyed the opposition. We are not Icarus. We continue to soar. Undefeated and unrepentant for the pride we take in our performances. A special mention to Allanda who was recruited as we walked to the bus and then proceeded to dominate the game. The sweet taste of victory will be all the sweeter in my new mug. MVP: Allanda Lumagai |
7-9 Boys Volleyball |
Mr Williamson |
3 - 0 JT Win |
Convincing win! Very one sided match. Boys played well which is a good sign leading into the finals. MVP: Jayden Wolczak |
7-9 Girls Volleyball |
Mrs Pellegrino |
2 - 0 JT Win |
The JT girls are back on the win. With a two set solid performance, JT were too strong for St Benedict’s. Winning by 9 points in the first set, the team worked together supporting and encouraging one another. The girls were even stronger in the second set, winning by 13 points, dominating through their serves and “dig set spike” game play. A massive improvement from last week. MVP: Mary-Agnes Fatialofa |
10-12 Girls Oztag |
Mr Tran |
6 - 1 JT Win |
In soggy conditions the ladies prevailed as commanding winners. As a team, they all communicated with confidence to ensure that their games flowed with efficiency. Shanae led from the front utilising her skill and prowess to direct the attack. While Elise and Chelsea defended the middle valiantly to stout any attack directed towards them. MVP: Elise Farrant and Tahlia Woolley |
10-12 Boys Oztag |
Mr McGrath |
11-2 JT Win |
Wet conditions saw plenty of drop ball from both teams in the first half. Once the boys held the ball and stuck to their short passes, we saw a different team that played fast and direct. Ryan Connors made history today scoring his first try for John Therry, topping it off with a second one from dummy half. Filemu’s talk in defence led the team all game and some solid execution in attack from Emmanuel, Tekyn, Braydon and Levi. MVP: Ryan Connors |
7-9 Girls Indoor Cricket |
Mr Geribo |
91 - 68 |
In what was our last round game we managed to beat St Benedict’s 91-68 to finish in 3rd place. Bridget and Annelise set up the game for us, with Annelise scoring 31 in a 43 run partnership. Allyssa was out top bowler taking 4/9 off her two overs. MVP: Allyssa Barry and Annelise Hall |
7-9 Boys Softball |
Mr Chapman |
1-5 SBCC Win |
In our match against St. Benedict’s we were comprehensively beaten by a more experienced team. We fielded well, but were unable to capitalise with the bat, going down 5-1. MVP: Jordan Newton-Park |
7-9 Girls Hockey |
Mrs Davidson |
0 - 1 SBCC Win |
Another close match against SBCC. The girls played a strong defensive game and ultimately went down to SBCC 1 v 0 playing 2 players short. Paige made 3 massive saves and has been our team goalie all term, taking on the role with courage and positivity. Thanks to the girls for a great season. MVP: Paige Halliday |
A few general reminders:

- Swimming Age Champions and House Champion will be announced at the next school assembly.
CONGRATULATIONS!
Dominic Baker in year 7 is one of our new members of the John Therry community, and what a star he is! Dominic competed at the 2021 ACPE NSW Junior Athletics Championships in the U15 Para Ambulant 1500m race on Saturday 13th March at Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Stadium. He finished up with the silver medal, which is an outstanding achievement. The hot conditions were a struggle, with temperatures reaching almost 30 degrees when the race started. Dom is a tough cookie, and pushed through to snag second place. Congratulations Dom, we look forward to seeing you race in the upcoming Cross Country and Athletics carnivals.
Upcoming Carnivals:
- JTCC Cross Country Carnival (Competitors Only) - Term 1, Week 9: Thursday 25th March
This is an ‘Opt In’ Event - students must register via Compass, and click attending. They must still get parental consent from a parent/carer through the Parent Portal. Registration and consent is due by Wednesday 24th March.
- JTCC Athletics Carnival (Whole school) - Term 2, Week 2: Friday 30th April
Diocesan Events:
A week after the conclusion of the John Therry swimming carnival our best swimmers headed to Wollongong to compete at the Diocesan swimming carnival at Corrimal Pool. Going into the day with optimism and high spirits our small team tried their best showcasing some of our elite athletes from John Therry. Some new strong swimmers have joined us in year 7 including; Caytlin Single, Jade Issaka and Chelsea Elvy. These girls were quick but unfortunately were out paced by some strong competition. Good performances by both Indyanna Cotton and Jamie Lee seeing them finish 3rd and 6th in some of their respective races. Our two strongest competitors Shontelle Cage and Ethan Ross swam like sharks and managed podium finishes in a number of races. A special shout out to our outgoing Murray Captain Molly Kerr who competed in her last DIO swimming event for John Therry after giving her best in the last 6 years. Shontelle narrowly missed out on going to CCC with two second place finishes in both 50m backstroke and butterfly. Ethan fortunately made the NSWCCC swimming carnival coming first in the 16 years boys 100m backstroke. We wish Ethan the best of luck in the next level.
