I hope that all have had a well-earned rest over the Christmas period and spent time with family and friends. We look forward with great hope to 2021 being a most wonderful year at John Therry.
EXCELLENT HSC RESULTS
John Therry Catholic College would like to congratulate the HSC group of 2020 on their outstanding efforts. A total Year group of 106 students with 80 eligible for an ATAR and 62 seeking University admission, achieved 36 Band 6's.
This included a total of 8 students with scores over 90.00 – or 12.9% of the students seeking University admission. The school ranking improved from 448 in 2019 to 218 this year. Across all examinations 7.6% were converted to Band 6 results, up from 1.9% last year.
We celebrate our College Dux, Olivia Mesa who achieved a personal score of 97.90 and five subjects with Band 6's. We also congratulate Morgan McPhee – 96.65, Joshua Innes – 94.85, Olivia Wolczak – 94.40, Giselle Levine – 92.30, Amith Jacob-Kavoor – 91.05, Chloe Kerswell – 90.60 and Kyle Kalabric – 90.10.
We recognise Luca Sannio who achieved a fourth place in the state in his Automotive VET course. All wonderful achievements.
Several students had their major works nominated and recognised - Visual Arts Morgan McPhee, Aaron Crispino, Logan Harber-Kerr and Hollie Cunningham. Morgan and Aaron having their works selected in Art Express. Olivia Mesa was also selected in OnStage for her drama work.
In a year where we had covid interruptions and the loss of a classmate that impacted all, the resilience of this group of young people has been amazing.
NEW STAFF TO JOHN THERRY
It is a normal and positive function of schools to have some turnover of Staff each year. In 2021 we welcome back from LSL Ms Meredith and our new staff members Mr Broady (Science), Ms Duval (TAS), Mr McDonald (Music), Ms Ursino (Languages), Mr Bateman (Languages / HSIE), Mr Borg (ENG/Maths) and Ms Davidson (PDHPE).
COVID RULES UPDATE
The current rules around covid precautions for schools and students were sent to all parents via email last week in a letter from myself and Mr Hill, Director of Schools. I ask that all parents read that letter and become familiar with the rules around access, attendance in person on the school grounds etc.
2021 COLLEGE GOALS
As we process the difficulties and successes of 2020, particularly our strong HSC results, we also evaluate and set goals for the coming year. For 2021 the goals are :-
- To improve the College learning culture.
