JTCC Newsletter Term 1 Week 9

Dear Parents/Guardians,
We have had a very strange week of education in Australia and with the continuation of cases of coronavirus being reported, it will not cease any time soon.
I would like to thank all the students who have adapted to this new type of learning and supported their teachers in this. We were well placed at John Therry as we have been using google classrooms for quite a while. However, that was to supplement the face-to-face classroom lessons. Now, as the main platform, things are different.
I would also like to thank the parental support, the questions, and the comments that have helped to inform us in the shift to full online learning. Please keep checking for information from the College via email and Compass Newsfeed and contact the Office if required.
As we move to the Easter period, we keep the focus of the resurrection in mind and the solemnity of the time ahead. With Churches closed, it is more imperative that parents and families celebrate the death and rising together.
God bless, Wayne

We understand there has been a lot of communication regarding COVID-19 that can be difficult to manage. We are mindful that you will be receiving messages from lots of other sources as well and we do not want to be flooding your email, but also need to pass on important information.

To help manage this, we are choosing to 'push notifications to the compass app' if parents have the app, and only emailing parents not using the app. By using the app you can hopefully minimise email traffic.

We are also trialing a new website to try to organise a lot of the information that is going out for you. The link below will take you to our webpage that has all the documents you have been sent and will keep you updated with current advice. Any feedback is appreciated.

We are very mindful that school plays an important role in supporting the social and emotional wellbeing of our young people. We have sent out a survey today to check on how students are finding home learning and to see if there is anything we can help with. Current feedback suggests that around 20% of our students are feeling a little overwhelmed at home and are still trying to get used to learning from home. Most students feel that teachers are setting a reasonable amount of work and that is challenging but achievable to them.

This might be an opportunity for you to ask your child about the survey and how they are coping with online learning. We are happy to take calls if you feel we can help, or we encourage students to email their teachers through the compass app to let them know how they are going and if they need help.

In light of the recent global health situation and the presence of COVID-19 in Australia, the University of Wollongong has reviewed its delivery of Learning Labs for 2020.

To ensure the health and wellbeing of our participants, we have made the decision to cancel both the upcoming April and July Learning Labs programs. An email has been sent to April attendees, which includes instructions on refunds.

The next Learning Labs is scheduled to take place in the October holidays (campuses TBC). We will be in touch to advise whether this is going ahead over the next coming months.
