REMINDER: Year 11 Yearly Exams start Monday!
YEAR 9 EARTHQUAKE PROOF BUILDINGS
As part of their study of the Earth, 9S1 were given the task of designing and constructing an earthquake proof structure using spaghetti pasta and blue tak. The class were given a budget for their materials and the structure had to be at least 60cm high and withstand shaking for at least 10 seconds.
The class threw themselves into the project and studied various designs from around the world that are currently being employed in earthquake prone countries such as New Zealand.
While many groups struggled to complete a building in the given time frame, one group was successful in design and construction. Well Done a fantastic accomplishment!

Didn’t play our best cricket today in the absence of Captain Kotsou. Some gratifying moments: a sensational left hand catch by Kyle Kalabric. Tried hard, were never overwhelmed, but beaten by a better team on the day. MVP: Ryan Connors |
Soccer Boys 7-8 |
Mr Wakeling |
Lost 2-1 vs MCCC |
An excellent spectacle of football, JT played well and in true spirit. Small defensive errors allowed two cheap goals however with more luck in front of goal the game could have been very different. MVP: Emiliano Aguirre |

Lost 36-32 VS MCCC |
A fantastic effort from our boys this week almost resulted in a victory against the undefeated Mt Carmel side. Despite a precarious start, the boys bounced back and started playing our style of football. With 5 minutes to go the boys hit the lead thanks to some fantastic play from Braiden Timmer across the backline. Unfortunately Mt Carmel kicked a late goal that ended up being the winning goal. Despite the close loss, we finished the regular season in 2nd place, meaning we will have a chance for redemption next week against Mt Carmel in the Grand Final. MVP - Braiden Timmer |
AFL Girls 10-12 |
Miss Leach |
Won 72-1 VS St Benedicts |
Fairly slow game, but the girls still ran away with an impressive victory, securing themselves a place in the grand final. Once again our defensive end were solid throughout the game, with excellent marking skills shown by Nikita and Sharnia. MVP: Sharnia Wharton |
Under 15’s Rugby League |
Mr Tran, Mr McGrath |
Won 20-4 VS MCCC |
Perfect Spring conditions laid the groundwork for an exhilarating team performance. Callum led the way with excellent line speed and ball running (a true captains performance). William, Emmanuel and Christian running off the forwards made great metres throughout the match, Wonderful performance all around. MVP: Callum Van Diesen |
Good luck to all teams playing finals next week!
At Diocese sport we also had some success last week with our first premiership of the year. Mr Williamson’s Diocese Boys Volleyball team finished first at the Gala day whilst the girls finished third in the pool based on point differential. Our Hockey boys team finished 4th and our girls team finished 10th, but did gain lots of valuable experience on the day. Thank you to the coaches and players that take extra time away from class to give our students the best opportunities to experience quality sporting competitions.

Nathan competed at the Special Olympics Australian Winter Games in Perisher last Saturday. He came 4th in the first division of advance male ski category and still managed to improve on his times from last year where he competed in the intermediate category. Well done Nathan
