Welcome Back!
I hope that the holidays provided some rest, relaxation and quality time with family and friends.
There is something special about the energy and excitement of the new year and the great hope that it brings. The students have made a wonderful start and there has been a very settled and focused commencement to learning.
For 2023, our strategic priority remains:
- To improve the College learning culture.
- To improve student performance and achievement.
Ultimately, John Therry should be a warm, welcoming community where students feel safe, known and respected, and can focus on their learning. My priority as the Principal will be to do everything we can to ensure that this is the case for each child who attends our community.
Welcome to our new teachers!
We have 10 new teachers in 2023 bringing a wealth of expertise and experience to the College. We have been blessed with our recruitment over the last few years, and continue to attract exceptional teachers to John Therry. We welcome the following teachers:
Stephanie Phillips (Assistant Principal), Hayley Arenelli (TAS), Luke Albery (Science), Bradley Chapman, (Music), Chris Estrada (Music), Liam Muss (TAS), Bethany Neaves (Diverse Learning Coordinator), Isaiah Pesa (HSIE / RE), Maeghan Robinson (Learning Support Teacher), Leah St Clair - (HSIE / RE / Special Education), Natalie Wagstaff (HSIE), and Eryn Williams (English).
We also have a number of teachers who have been with us previously joining us again in 2023 and we warmly welcome them back for the year ahead. Leah St Clair (HSIE / RE / English), Taylah Moon (PDHPE) and Maeghan Robinson (Diverse Learning).
Welcome to our year 7 students
It has been a real privilege to meet our 205 new Year 7 students. They have made a wonderful start to High School and while a slightly larger group, they have been very settled and supportive of one another. John Therry is a large site and having all 1035 students present can be a little overwhelming at first for our youngest students. It has been lovely to see the older students helping Year 7 with their maps and showing them around, and modeling how we look after each other at John Therry. On Monday evening, Year 7 parents / carers and students are invited to our Year 7 Welcome and Information evening. We will host a simple BBQ from 6pm and begin in the hall promptly at 6.30pm.
HSC Results
We congratulate the HSC class of 2022 on their many wonderful achievements. We continue to have students achieve at the very highest levels across a range of subjects, including 14th place in the State in English Standard, and 5 nominations for HSC showcases. We had 2 nominations in Industrial Technology Timber, and 3 in Drama (with two being exhibited). We also had students achieve 1st place in the Diocese in 4 different subjects.
We particularly congratulate Tameka Thorn as Dux, achieving an ATAR of 92.30 and being a wonderful example to her peers modelling hard work, humility, and compassion for others.
Over the last 3 years we have seen over 100 band 6 results, 20+ students with ATAR's over 90, 5+ students with ATAR's over 95. We have had some amazing achievements including 1st and 2nd Place in Visual Arts, and 20+ nominations for HSC showcases.
Catholic Schools NSW Data shows that our students have continued to achieve results above similar students in other Catholic Schools. This is a strong trend over the last 3 years and is evidence of the strong culture of learning that has been established and continues to thrive.
JT TEACHER WINS MASTER TEACHER FELLOWSHIP APPOINTMENT
John Therry Catholic College, Rosemeadow, would like to announce that science teacher, Teresa Harris, has been chosen to join the 2022-23 cohort of the ABE Master Teacher Fellowship. As one of several teachers selected from a variety of international sites, this program will support Teresa in collaborating with experts from STEM fields, develop curriculum infusing research-based pedagogy, inclusive classroom practices, and cutting-edge biotech concepts and technologies.
Awardees were chosen based on their contributions to student learning, leadership skills, communication skills, and support of ABE and the ABE community.
As an ABE Master Teacher, Teresa will work with other Fellows from around the world to develop classroom, curriculum, or professional development resources in areas of personal interest. Fellows will also serve as ambassadors to other teachers, providing peer advice and guidance on using the LabXchange platform to support ABE while encouraging other ABE teachers to grow in new, innovative directions.
Teresa will begin the Fellowship this December 2022.
