PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Dear Parents/guardians,

RECOGNISING YR 11

At the first College assembly of the term yesterday (because the Hall was used for the HSC exams) we celebrated and recognised the leaning success of our Year 11 students. These students have focussed on their learning and put in the required effort to excel and were rightly recognised.

The quality of these students again demonstrates that the John Therry students are as good as any student in the state. Hard work, focus, commitment and belief will bring results. Our students use their talents to excel in sport, the arts, debating and academically.

In this world we have people who have talent and those that have to work hard to keep up with the talented. Too often though, talented people think that talent is enough on its own. They often get shocked when they see less talented people succeed more than themselves. The real lesson is that hard work brings great results and success is not only tied to the talent one has. We also need to realise that there are many talented people in the world and our school, so talent alone is not enough.

It also matters less if you don’t have talent if you are prepared to put in the hard work. In fact, on many occasions it is the effort that is recognised and not the talent. So, I urge all students to work hard, commit, stay focussed and believe in themselves.

HSC COMPLETED

Friday 4th November was the final HSC exam for our Year 12 students. I wish them well as they await their results. After such a disrupted year in 2021 they have all done a wonderful job in their final preparations.  The final event for them will be their Formal next week and I can’t wait to catch up with them.
