SPECIAL OLYMPICS AUSTRALIA YOUTH CARNIVAL
On Wednesday, 8th June 2022, students from within our College stage 4, 5 and 6 specialist settings classes were given the opportunity to attend an exciting day of inclusive sport and physical education at the Special Olympics Australia Youth Carnival. We were joined by other students from within the local Campbelltown school community to participate in a variety of competitive and non-competitive activities. Students gained skills and experiences in basketball, AFL, bocce and other fundamental movement skills.
The day was geared towards celebrating the sporting gifts, skills and friendships (old and new) of all those in attendance. Our students represented the College in exemplary fashion through a positive willingness to participate, respectful conduct and spirit. Highlights of the day include the smiles and laughter witnessed and an epic basketball game between our stage 5 and 6 students.
Charlotte Farmer and Lachlan Vacchini took on leadership roles throughout the day by volunteering to act in a mentoring capacity for our younger stage 4 students. Liam Markiewicz also demonstrated his leadership skills by publicly making an impromptu speech to thank organisers and coaching staff for their work in providing such a wonderful day. College staff including Mrs White, Mr Muvceski and Mrs Sharkey were very proud to be associated with this fine group of young men and women on the day.
