DEBATING
To say that I am proud, is a complete understatement! On Tuesday 14th June, our Year 10 Debaters were victorious in the MISA semi-final against Magdalene Catholic College! The topic was 'That we should abolish the ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admission Rank) system of university entrance'. We were the affirmative team.
This is no ordinary accomplishment. Over the years our most senior Year 10 debaters have lost more debates than they have won. Despite their relentless efforts, each loss taught them the value of teamwork and the importance of evaluating each debate and applying what they'd learnt. They have demonstrated every aspect of JT PRIDE and thoroughly deserve to be representing JT in the MISA Grand Final on June 28th against Broughton Anglican College.
Be sure to congratulate these outstanding achievers on their excellent refutation skills, cohesive arguments and exceptional teamwork:
First Speaker - Lucy Cathro
Second Speaker - Vivienne Dos Santos
Third Speaker - Isabella Nunes
Fourth Speaker - Sarah Perenara
Our Year 9 team debated against St Benedict's Catholic College in the MISA semi-final; we are immensely proud of their commendable efforts. The topic was 'That sport teams should not accept sponsorship from gambling companies.' We were the negative team. Be sure to congratulate our Year 9 Semi-Finalists on their integrous manner and ethical perseverance:
First Speaker - Salomiya Siby
Second Speaker - Jasmeet Bains
Third Speaker - Riley McIntyre
Fourth Speaker - Jaydan Diamond
