This Term in VET (Vocational Education and Training) the students have been engaging in a variety of practical experiences.
Food and Beverage students had the great opportunity of participating in a Barista course at CBD coffee school. Here, the students were trained by industry professionals in how to make the perfect espresso and textured milk. The students then were able to enjoy a lunch in the city at Din Tai Fung where they were greeted by robots delivering their food. This was a great experience for the students to see how the hospitality Industry works and the way technology is incorporated into everyday life.
Kitchen Operations have been engaging in a number of service periods where their classroom experience is in fact turned into a real life commercial kitchen service period. The students are under time constraints to prepare, cook, serve and clean for customers within the school. The students have so far cooked an eggplant and burrata rigatoni with fresh focaccia bread as well as an assortment of canapes which included beetroot, caramelised onion and feta tart, asian inspired chicken sliders and pork and fennel sausage rolls.
Year 11 Construction students have completed their first project which was a wooden mallet. Throughout this project they were able to learn the following skills: Marking out , cutting straight and angled, shaping the handle and assembling pieces in order. This project allows them to learn the foundational skills of measuring out and constructing materials.
The year 12 Construction students have been constructing a door and window frame to the Australian standard size scale. The students have been cutting and nailing sections in a way to assemble the completed frame.
Year 11 Entertainment have been completing their work placement hours at Campbelltown theatre. Here they have been able to assist in set making, sound and lighting. The students have been immersed in the behind the scenes of producing a spectacular theatrical performance.
