PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Dear Parents/ Guardians,

I trust that all are as well as can be in these trying times. I am a little lost for words as it seems we overcome one crisis to land in another. I know that a number of our families were affected by the rain and flooding and many of our students have had issues of road closures and transport to and from school. I am extremely happy that the losses have only been of property and items that can be replaced, and not more serious. I am also aware of the strength that some people can muster from within themselves to carry on when life deals us such harsh times.

A big thank you to the Staff for the flexibility to again provide continuing education for the students as a priority during the disrupted week. And to all of the students who have once again had some disrupted learning.

We have had some water damage at the College with several classrooms being out of action until work is conducted to repair them. Some roof leaks, damaged carpets and ceilings will be fixed very quickly.

As we move to the second Sunday of the Easter season I wish everyone a safe and dry weekend and hope that all can re-charge the batteries with hope for a wonderful future.

THANK YOU - CAMPBELLTOWN CATHOLIC CLUB

Campbelltown Catholic club has been a tremendous support of Catholic schools in the Macarthur region for many decades. Over that time, they have assisted the funding of many small to mid-range maintenance and building projects in all of our schools.

This year John Therry Catholic College has been the recipient of a very generous gift from the Catholic club for refurbishment of school toilets, towards a sun shade structure and new carpet in the College Learning Centre. The grant totalled $150,000.00. As I am sure that all parents can remember, school toilet blocks are always in need of repair and improvement and this grant has allowed us to create a much better environment for the students. And with the College Library now a Learning Centre the upgraded carpet has been supplemented with new furniture and seating to make it central as an option to support student learning.

Below is the story from the Catholic club’s website.

More than $1 million has been donated to local schools and community groups by Campbelltown Catholic Club – despite all the lockdowns and restrictions.

For our schools, that means shade shelters, libraries, sporting grounds, and classroom upgrades.

For our community, that means charity fundraisers can still go ahead and sporting groups can get new uniforms and equipment.

The overarching message is that in spite of all the obstacles of 2020-21, the Club’s donations for that year totals $1,076,349.

“This makes us proud,” said Club President David McDonald. “The Club has continued to back its local school and community through these unprecedented COVID times and remains faithful to its charter.”

One of the biggest beneficiaries is John Therry Catholic College, to help provide vital new facilities at the ageing school in Rosemeadow.

“It is one of the oldest, and lowest socio-economic schools, in the Diocese and in need of maintenance,” said Principal Wayne Marshall. “These funds have made a huge difference to student well-being,” he said. “Fresh and new upgraded toilet facilities and an upgrade to our main learning space – the College Library – has been welcomed by all. The shade structure has also provided a welcome sun safe area for the students to enjoy.”

Campbelltown Catholic Club was founded in 1964 to help fund Catholic education in Macarthur and has so far given more than $32 million.

So, a great big THANK YOU to the wonderful Catholic club.
