A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

WELCOME BACK TO ALL

I hope that all have had a well-earned rest over the Christmas period and spent time with family and friends. We look forward with great hope to 2022 being a most wonderful year at John Therry. The challenges of the pandemic are ever present and we will take every precaution to keep students and Staff safe.

WELCOME TO OUR NEW YEAR 7

With the restrictions that were in place last year we were unable to hold an Orientation Day for the incoming Year 7 students. This took place on the first day of this year. The students had a wonderful program that saw them rotate through activities in their House or Learning Group. I thank Mr Tran and Ms Schniebli for the organisation.

EXCELLENT HSC RESULTS

John Therry Catholic College would like to congratulate the HSC group of 2021 on their outstanding efforts. A total Year group of 123 students with 65 seeking University admission and an ATAR, achieved a total of 57 Band 6's. 27 students achieved a Distinguished Achievers listing.

This also included 10 students with scores over 90.00 – or 15.4% of the ATAR students. The school ranking improved from 455 in 2019 to 195 this year. This makes John Therry the most improved school in New South Wales from 2019 – 2021, moving up 260 places.  Across all examinations 10.1% were converted to Band 6 results, up from 1.9% in 2019.

We celebrate our College Dux, Damian Pattinson who achieved a personal score of 98.75. An outstanding effort. John Therry had four students over 97.00 ATAR – Damian Pattinson, Lauren Marsh, Toby Harland and Anthony Ceroni. Another outstanding effort.

We also recognise Toby Harland who achieved a First place in the state in his Visual Arts course. We also celebrate Lauren Marsh, who attained second place in the state in Visual Arts.

We congratulate Tasmyn Reynolds on being awarded a Catholic Education Office teaching scholarship to the value of $20000 ($5000 per year). Tasmyn obtained an ATAR of 89.50 in the HSC.

In a year where we had incredible covid interruptions the resilience of this group of young people has been amazing. I need to also recognise the Staff that taught these students in their journey through education at John Therry.

NEW STAFF TO JOHN THERRY

It is a normal and positive function of schools to have some turnover of Staff each year. In 2022 welcome back from Maternity Leave Mrs Rueda. We also welcome Jessica Coventry (Science), Ben Joy (TAS), Michael Griffin (TAS), Toby Winter (TAS), Jason Miszczyszyn (Eng), Reese Scarcella (Eng), Briana Screpis (Eng), Antonia Baretto (Eng), Haylee Abela (CAPA).

2022 COLLEGE GOALS.

As we process the difficulties and successes of 2021, particularly our strong HSC results, we also evaluate and set goals for the coming year. For 2022 the goals are :-

  1. To improve the College learning culture.
  2. To improve student performance and achievement.
