MISA Round 4 - vs.St. Pats
Rugby League & Softball vs. MCCC
Just as the buses were pulling up to take our students to their games, dark clouds and thunder were rolling in.Despite some light showers, some of our teams were finally able to play their first game of the term! Some of our poor teams were ready to finally get out and play, but unfortunately got stung with a BYE round and are yet to play a game!. JTCC performed really well this week, with 6 wins and one loss. Some teams produced outstanding victories, with many coaches excited for the rest of the competition this term.

Unfortunately we were outplayed today by Mount Carmel, beating us convincingly in round 2 of the competition. We need to work on our discipline in order to be effective in this competition. Too many penalties makes it hard to compete in any game. See you all at training Thursday! MVP- Garry Smith |

The girls are showing great improvements. Their biggest improvement this week was their fielding display. Being able to restrict St Pat’s to a small total, meant we were always in control and were able to come away with a convincing win. MVP- Grace Augustine |

Another fantastic effort by the boys as they beat MCCC 13-7. We fielded exceptionally well and our pitchers had a solid game. Special mention to Kayd for his “dinger” that got 3 home. MVP: Kayd Sumners |

The girls played St Pats for round 4. St Pats took an early lead getting a quick 5 goals in the first 5 minutes. The John Therry defence team of Sokowa Parker and Sarah White worked hard and got hand to ball for tips, deflections and intercepts to give the shooters as much possession as possible. Shanae-Lee Leech-Morrison moved across the court providing a solid option bringing the ball down the court and feeding to the shooters. Her effort on court today earned her the MVP for round 4. After a delayed start to the season the girls were ecstatic to be having their first match! We were a few squad members short and recruited Maleah to play in goals who did a terrific job. Jorja and Emilie had many chances but couldn't find the back of the net. We looked like we were comfortably going to win the game however two quick goals conceded from corners put the win out of reach. Sophie was rock solid at the back alongside Shontay and Oliva controlled the midfield. A great start and promising display of football shown by the whole team. MVP: Charlie Dadd |

Tough game for the girls this week, St Pats proved to be a very quick and well drilled team. The girls took a lot out of the loss especially getting back on defence quickly. With our last game next week we are looking to show the improvement of 6 weeks worth of playing. MVP: Laura Augustine |

After many weeks of adverse weather and a bye we finally had our first game. It took some time for students to get the hang of the fast paced game especially in the wind, however we started to find our rhythm and some confidence halfway through the game. Unfortunately our accuracy with passes let us down and the St Pats team were victorious. We definitely have lots to work on for the upcoming rounds. To the team’s credit they never gave up all the way until the final siren. MVP Erin Murtz |
South West Sydney Regional Oztag Competition
SENIOR GIRLS
The Senior Girls Oztag team were fortunate enough to participate in the South-West regional oztag competition. Matched up with tough competition throughout the day the ladies began impeccably with a 6-0 win. This dominance continued throughout the day with the next 3 games finishing 4-1, 5-1, 9-1. Their toughest test came in the semi-final against Model Farm High School. After falling behind 3-0, the ladies began to find their mojo with passes stringing together to put continual pressure on Model Farm. 2 quick tries in the space of 2 minutes from John Therry made for an extremely tense final minute. Unfortunately the ladies came up short and were eliminated by the eventual winners 3-2. An outstanding day of oztag with numerous players showing their individual brilliance throughout the day.Finally the John Therry students must be commended for their excellent behaviour, sportsmanship and JT PRIDE displayed.
Special Mention: Bridget Shearer for playing 3 years above her age group.

SENIOR BOYS
After a successful season in MISA, we entered an all schools competition that was held at Minto on Wednesday. Round 1 saw us take on Leumeah HS at 8am, which was a real test to start the day. Leumeah were competitive but JT came out as 3-1 winners which saw our confidence boost. We then had the opportunity to regroup and practice some plays during our BYE to ensure that we can execute good sets against the upcoming teams. This saw us put on a show and win convincingly against Ambarvale 9-1. We then came up against Lurnea HS, where some of the boys were starting to fatigue and injuries were becoming the norm. The boys showed true JT spirit and pushed through to win 5-2. Our final round we faced Sarah Redfern HS, the energy was down and the opposition was ready for the challenge. A few boys played out of position to give others a break and we beat them 5-2. In the semi final, we beat Model Farms convincingly, with the boys playing some of the best Oz-Tag that I have seen them play. The confidence was high coming into the Grandfinal against Campbelltown Performing Arts and the boys were ready to go. The game was neck and neck until the final minute, where Braydon Wickey sealed the deal for a 3-2 victory. Congratulations to all team members - Each student represented John Therry exceptionally well on and off the field. Well done on an outstanding effort, i’m looking forward to the next challenge!The champions & runner up of each division from each regional tournament will be invited to compete at the NSW Secondary Schools Champion of Champions Tournament held in July.
JTCC ATHLETICS - Javelin and 400m Events
Last Thursday 63 students walked down to Thomas Acres Reserve to compete in our final two Athletics Carnival Events, the 400m and Javelin. Everyone had a fantastic afternoon and gave their best effort in all events. There was some great stamina on show in the 400m races, and some big throws in the javelin. A number of school javelin records were broken, well done to the students below. A special mention to Jordan Truckle (13 years boys) with a huge 23.75m throw to claim a new record, and Nikita Maika-Teal, who threw 26.40m, breaking the 17+ years girls record. Her throw would’ve snagged a close second in the 17 + boys division.
Congratulations to all involved, and the staff who make sure that all these events run smoothly.
House and Age Champions will be announced at the next assembly.

A few general reminders
- We are now into our 6th term of using COMPASS - Students need to ensure that they are getting a parent /guardian to give consent for Events via the Compass Parent Portal or they risk not being allowed to attend.
- Please make sure you read the run sheet on Tuesday morning posted on Compass
- Socks need to be white or JTCC socks, and visible at or above the ankle.
- The new MISA/Representative shorts can be purchased for $20 from the Finance Office, and picked up from the Sports Office. There are Rugby/AFL, OzTag and Multi shorts.
- Expressions of Interest - NETBALL UMPIRES - If you are a confident and/or registered netball umpire we need your help.f you are interested, please see Ms Leach at the Sports Office by 21/5/2021.

Remember that there is a new way to nominate individual sports for NSWCCC. This information can be found if you search CSNSW Sport on Google. It is very important that you keep track of closing dates for registration to avoid disappointment of missing out.
