Leadership Forum
On Friday 21st May we were privileged to have prominent Members of Federal Parliament address a student leadership forum. The Honorable Tanya Plibersek (Federal Member for Sydney, Shadow Minister for Education and Shadow Minister for Women), Dr Mike Freelander (Federal Member for Macarthur) and Mr Chris Hayes (federal Member for Fowler) all shared stories of their own leadership journeys and the importance and benefits of leading a life of service. It was a truly inspirational forum and we hope that our students at John Therry aspire to be of service to their communities, and never underestimate what they have to offer.

Westpac Lifesaver Rescue Helicopter visit
On Thursday 20th May John Therry was extremely lucky to be visited by the Wesptac Lifesaver Rescue Helicopter Service. This visit was made possible by the support of Westpac and the Southern Helicopter Service and was a wonderful experience for our students to witness. This visit is part of their education and outreach program and aims to raise awareness of the service and provide important messages about safety from frontline workers.
We ran an emergency evacuation drill before the helicopter landed at around 10am. Our Year 9 & 10 students then stayed on and heard from the pilots about the important work they do and they shared stories that highlighted the importance of safety. This was followed by the opportunity for a walk around the helicopter.
The images below capture some of the mornings events and we express our sincere appreciation to Westpac and the Southern Helicopter service for the opportunity.

Parent teacher interviews
We held our Year 11 and 12 parent teacher interviews on Monday night and these are always a great opportunity for us to work together and support students to achieve their potential. Thank-you to all the parents who made the time in your busy schedules to attend. An exciting aspect of the evening was for the Year 12 Hospitality students to prepare dinner for the staff, as part of their assessment for the course. This was done to the highest of standards and staff were overwhelmingly impressed with the quality of the meal and service. It was great to see our students so proud of their work and this was a wonderful experience for all involved.
