MISA Round 2 - vs. MAG

Rugby League vs. FCC

Once again we have had to cancel due to weather, this time rain causing cancellations, which was disappointing for athletes and coaches. Indoor cricket and basketball were able to go ahead indoors and our three teams started the term 2 competition with a bang.

62 - 16

JTCC Win

We took on Magdalene in Round 2 and batted first. An inconsistent innings, with us both losing wickets and displaying some good scoring shots hitting the back net, meant we posted a moderate total of 62. When the girls took to the field they were immediately in control. Some good fielding from Grace and competent wicket keeping from Tess resulted in a few runouts, meaning we were able to restrict the scoring of each of Magdalene's batting partnerships. Our bowling still needs improvement but it was a well deserved win!

Excellent team effort. A dominant performance over Magdalene. Solid performance from Simon, Keon, Garang in defense. Great performance from all, well done.

7-9 GIRLS BASKETBALL

Mr. Jefferys

16 -11

JTCC Win

The girls were eager for their first win and were much improved from last week. The spacing was better and the rebounding was fantastic. With a 1 point lead at half time it was always going to be a close game. With some awesome defence and rebounding by the team and in particular Georgia we were able to get our first win.

We are hoping this good play will continue into next week!

MVP: Georgia Bastock

Southern Country Rugby League

Last week we had 5 students travel to Wagga Wagga for the Southern Country Rugby League trials. Emmanuel Fatialofa, Zac Morheb, Filemu Logai-Lusiano (Opens) and Zac Dittavong, Noah McKenzie, Riley Oitmann, Levi McGuinness (U15).  The trials were to select an U15 and Opens Southern Country team to compete in the NSWCCC Selections Trial. This is a pathway for talented Rugby League players to gain selection in the NSW All School Boys Rugby League Teams. John Therry is thrilled to announce that the following students were successfully selected in the U15 team:

  • Zac Dittavong
  • Riley Oitmann
  • Noah McKenzie

JTCC Athletics Carnival

This year we went into the Athletics Carnival with Chisholm, Conolly and Murray all having a carnival win each. Will Ryan be able to finally claim victory in the final carnival for the 2021 rotation?

Once again participation will be key to age champion titles and final points with a number of ages being very close. As such, a number of valuable points are still unallocated as specialty events such as the 400m and Javelin (still to be completed at school) will be pivotal when assigning Age champions. A tip for 2022 captains is to ensure all events have maximum competitors.

The day dawned with an ominous cloud of smoke hanging over Campbelltown. With the Air Quality expected to improve throughout the day, the decision was made for the carnival to go ahead. The 200m events were the first event scheduled for the day, but these were postponed until the smoke cleared.. The turn out and enthusiasm from all the students were great, and especially  from the year 12 cohort, which was fantastic.  The students smashed some records; 6 records, 1 record equaliser and two new establishment records in the 'Intermediate Triple Jump' - see table below for our new record holders. Garang Bol in the 14 year boys high jump actually broke our Sport Captain Pat Picot's 2017 record. Will he continue to up the ante over the next few years and wipe Pat out of the record books?

The High Jump was a spectacle as always with two student breaking records, Noah McKenzie equaling the 15 years boys records and  Patrick Picot falling just short of clearing 1.91m to break the 17 + years record.

Throughout the day students would rotate between the Track and Field events in their respective age groups, with Conolly and Murray House having the highest participation points for the day.

The Annual Yr 12 House Challenge has upped the ante this year to give more students an opportunity to be involved. Students had to dig their house coloured wooden egg out of the sand pit before walking the wooden egg across to the target challenge (Students had to knock the egg off the ledge before completing 4 legs of the egg relay (hopping, passing, kicking the egg from end to end). The students finished the challenge in a human pyramid where the egg was thrown to the competitor on top, and then a whole track run with the house team to signify the end of the race. The race was chaotic and Mr. Williamson ended up disqualifying the majority of the teams, with all four houses being declared equal winners.

Throughout the day Murray developed a strong overall lead but with 400m events, Javelin and age champions still to be calculated these final positions could change.

Overall house champion and age champions will be announced in a few weeks time. Once the final events have been completed the Diocesan team will be announced to compete at the Diocesan Athletics Carnival in Term 3.
