Westpac Rescue Helicopter visit

We have been very fortunate to be selected for a Westpac Rescue Helicotper visit to John Therry on Thursday 20th May. They visit a very small number of schools each year and will provide our students with an opportunity to see the helicopter land. They will run an education session with our Year 9 & 10 students as part of the visit. We will conduct an emergency evacuation drill beforehand and this will have all students on the courts for the helicopter landing. We look forward to sharing photos and information about the visit in the week 5 newsletter.

Leadership Forum - Tanya Plibersek, Mike Freelander, Chris Hayes

On Friday 21st May, we have organised a visit from some current politicians to talk with our student leadership team, and other students interested in leadership and politics. Our guests will take part in a Q & A forum with our students, exploring leadership and some of the challenges and opportunities that leadership can provide. We hope the visit will encourage our students to consider leadership opportunties and their potential as future community leaders. Students can complete a form to express interest in attending and this will be sent via email on Monday.

COVID Intensive Learning Support Program

John Therry has secured funding as part of a Government initiative to support students who have fallen behind due to the impact of COVID-19. This support will be provided to a wide range of students whose grades and academic performance went backwards last year. This will include students across all class groupings and ability levels. We have employed a number of teachers who will act as tutors to small groups of students (2-5). This support will be provided in class and focus on developing literacy and numeracy skills to ensure the students achieve to their potential.  Letters will be sent out next week to students who will be offered support in the first round that will run for up to 12 weeks. Further information will be provided in the letter on the structure of the program and the support provided.
