SPORT UPDATE - Term 2, week 2

MISA Round 1 - vs. SBCC

Tuesday week 2 was going to be a busy day with round 1 of MISA kicking off. Unfortunately all outdoor competitions were cancelled due to hazardous air quality, which was disappointing for athletes and coaches. Indoor cricket and basketball were able to go ahead indoors and our three teams started the term 2 competition with a bang.

89- (-11)

JTCC Win

In the first MISA cricket game the girls were fantastic. They worked as a team and encouraged each other, with the majority of the team being new players without background knowledge on cricket. The girls started with a win, scoring 89 to -11. All the girls all had outstanding performances off and on the field and showing great sportsmanship. Most importantly everyone had fun.

JTCC Win

Phenomenal first game, scoring 45 points in the second half. All 10 players contributed to the scoring with four players in the double digits. Results underpinned by tenacious defence and unselfish passing, always finding the open man. Well done.

MVP: Garang Bol (14 points, 7 rebounds, 5 steals)

7-9 GIRLS BASKETBALL

Mr. Jefferys

19-26

SBCC Win

This was the first game that these girls have played together, we were off to a good start with Navara knocking down two early baskets to start our season. We struggled to get back on defence in the second half and SBCC were able to capitalize with a 10 point lead. With some fantastic defence we were able to get the lead to 4 before some late fouls put us out of reach. The girls are eager for our first win next week!

MVP: Navara Mataipule

Diocesan Open boys and girls Football Carnival

Thursday and Friday last week our open boys and girls football teams went down to beautiful Woonona to compete in the Diocesan carnivals. Despite a very talented team, the boys team finished in 5th place and missed out progressing to the next level. The girls were in a similar boat, with a strong side not quite being able to crack an elusive top four spot, also finishing in 5th.

Despite this, the following students were selected in the Wollongong Diocesan team:
  • Patrick Picot
  • Andrew Brown
  • Kynan Sparkes
  • Tasmyn Reynolds
  • Lachlan Hanney (shadow)
  • Olivia Sloan
  • Zarli Lakeman

Diocesan Cross Country

54 JTCC students had a very early start on Monday morning, heading all the way down to Nowra’s ‘Willandra’ to compete in the Diocesan cross country. All students represented JTCC with pride, and should be very happy with their efforts.

Special mention to the four students who had an exceptional run and have been successfully selected into the Wollongong Diocese Cross Country team:
  • Dominic Baker - 1st place: Junior boys Multi-class
  • Lachlan Vacchini - 1st place: Senior boys Multi-class
  • Darcy Wilson - 2nd place: 15 year boys
  • Jaidon Cosmidis - 4th place: 12 years boys

Mason McPhee

Mason's representative team 'Macarthur Colts’ played in the NSW State Baseball Championships from April 8th to 12th. They won the whole tournament and were undefeated. They will now compete at the Australian National Championships which are to be held from the 8th to the 13th May in Lismore. A win at nationals will qualify them for the Senior League World Series. Mason plays catcher and first base and this is his 2nd state title and fourth national championship. Congratulations Mason, and good luck!
