SPORT NEWS WEEK 1
Once again a big congratulations to all our MISA teams in Term 1, JTCC did exceptionally well. Overall JTCC is sitting in a close second, hopefully we can bump MCCC off the top this term. Congratulations to the 10-12 Boys Oztag and 7-9 Boys Volleyball teams who were victorious and crowned overall Interzone Champions!!
A timely reminder to start fresh in term 2
John Therry Catholic College has a strong sporting culture and heritage and we look to include all students in our sporting pursuits and opportunities. John Therry Catholic College aims to foster a healthy culture of physical activity and ensure our sporting and activities programs are for ALL, regardless of the student’s experience and skill level. Our different programs aim to increase and enhance students' skills and abilities across a wide variety of physical activity pursuits and sports in order to assist students to develop a positive attitude towards lifelong physical activity and healthy habits.
Towards the end of the term a few students were involved in a number of negative incidents during sport - these range from:
- Deliberately missing the bus
- Truanting
- Lateness - to sport and/or representative carnivals
- Not giving consent prior to attending representative carnivals
- Disrespectful behaviour on charter buses
- Disruptive or disrespectful behaviour during sport and/or MISA
- Poor uniform standards
- Disruptive behaviour during sports detention
- Poor participation
At the beginning of the year, all students and their parents/carers gave consent on an electronic permission note stating that they understood that exemplary behaviour is required whilst participating in sport and physical activity opportunities. If some students do not improve their behaviour this term, they are at risk of being withdrawn from Sport for a period of time or withdrawn completely during Term 2 unless their behaviour improves. This includes being denied the opportunity to represent JTCC at Diocesan/knockout carnivals, which is a privilege. If students turn up on the morning of representative carnivals (i.e. Diocesan carnivals etc.) without consent via the Compass Parent Portal, they are at risk of not being allowed to attend. If you could please inform and discuss this with your child so we can ensure a positive engagement in sport for the remainder of the year
Students in year 9 and 10 - If for whatever reason students are not satisfied with their group or activity, there is a process where students are required to visit the sports office to speak to myself or Mr. Bodeker to arrange a swap. If the group that they are requesting is full, they put their name on the waitlist and I will be contacted when the swap can go ahead. This year so far we have processed over 10 changes. Once this change has been processed, students are aware that they cannot change again this year. They are also aware that I have done this swap on the premise that they will be on time to their sport class, and they will participate. This group change is conditional, and if they do not meet the school expectations, they are at risk of being withdrawn from sport for the remainder of the term. Requests to change groups on a Tuesday afternoon as we head off to sport are not acceptable and will be denied.
JTCC Cross Country

Today over 160 students took part in the school Cross Country down at Thomas Acres Reserve. Students participated with enthusiasm, fantastic house spirit and great sportsmanship and should be proud of their achievements. The conditions were perfect for running, which saw some exceptional results with some promising athletes for the Diocesan carnival. We wish all the students competing down in Nowra on Monday the best of luck.

JTCC had two representatives attending, Alexis Paulo and Coby Hilton. Both students represented JTCC with integrity and pride, and performed extremely well. Coby was a class above, showing great skill and strength in the forward line and was successful in making the 22 person squad to compete in the All Schools Carnival in Albury at the end of May. Congratulations Coby!
