PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
ANZAC Day 2021
It will be a different ANZAC Day this year, with restrictions in place that limit the number of people allowed at events. These restrictions are made in light of COVID and the vulnerability of many of the participants, which is very understandable. This has meant that the school has been unable to participate in the traditional ANZAC Day march at Campbelltown, which we have a proud history and plan to continue. We as a school community still acknowledge this important service and will have a cermony at school on Monday with students to commerorate those who have fought and died trying to protect our country.
Lest we forget.
2022 Year 7 Enrolment interviews
We commence our 2022 enrolment interviews in week 2 and look forward to meeting the 200+ families that have applied for a place at John Therry. This exceeds the number of spaces we have available, and we traditionally continue receiving enrolment applications throughout the year. If you know of anyone who has not applied and was hoping to attend, it is important they make contact as soon as possible. Offers are made by the end of Term 2 so siblings who have not applied may not have a place if they apply later.
Building works and school improvement
A range of school improvement works have again been undertaken over the holiday period. See the images below for a snapshot of this work.
Shade shelters for the Basketall Courts and Bus Bay area - this space aims to provide an outdoor learning space for PDHPE and sport, as well as a seating area for buses of an afternoon.
Oval irrigation - The ovals look fairly magnificent at the moment after the rain we have had, but through drought they can become very dry and require water trucks to keep the grass alive and safe for play. A sprinkler system has been installed across the first oval, supported by a rain water tank off our buildings. This will allow us to ensure we have a safe and inviting oval for sport and physical activity.
Back Gate - electronic gates are being installed to improve access and safety at the back of the school. They will be open during pick-up and drop-off for staff and student exit, but will remain closed during the day.
Painting - each holiday we have programmed maintenance and painting to try and improve the learning environment for students. The languages classrooms came up very nicely!
2019 and 2020 Yearbook distribution
We have begun distributing the 2019 and 2020 Yearbooks this week. The oldest child in each family will receive the copies for the family and we trust that these will be a treasured memento.
