ASH WEDNESDAY LITURGY

Religion 1
The College Ash Wednesday and Lenten liturgy were impacted considerably by COVID restrictions this year by a shortened time and by not being able to distribute ashes. This, however, did not impact the importance and value of the message or the spirit with which it was celebrated.

The liturgy was led by the College Captains Lauren and Wayne as well as our Spirituality Captain Celeste. The message of this year's liturgy focused on Pope Francis' challenge to us for this year - “In Lent, we need to be increasingly concerned with speaking words of comfort, strength, consolation and encouragement, and not words that demean, sadden, anger or show scorn,” Our message of encouragement to our community is shared below.

ash wednesday.jpgThese 40 days of Lent, through fasting, giving and praying we fully trust God in his guidance and mercy to bring us closer to Him.

We take time to consciously and deliberately stop, to reflect on our relationship with God and our understanding of our life right now. Lent is not a period of time when I have to give things up but rather more significantly a dynamic, active time, where I have permission to act, to be more generous with the blessings that I have, to seek out others that need me to act with them or on their behalf. This Lent be challenged to do something, to give something, to change something to be something more. Place a value on yourself this Lent and stand for those who struggle to stand for themselves, pray and fast for a change, a change in ourselves to focus on the abundance we have and not what we don’t.
