PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Marshall_Wayne_2020.jpg
Dear Parents, Students, Staff & Friends of John Therry

As I write the final Newsletter for the 2020 school year, I am again staggered at how fast the year has gone. However, at times, in the midst of the worst of Covid, the time seemed to drag as we struggled with remote learning and isolation. None of us knew what this year would hold when we started in January, or of the amazing resilience of the Australian people and the great job our governments have done in managing the pandemic.

Congratulations go to the Term 4 MISA sports teams where John Therry captured three out of nine premierships (and two Runners Up).

  • Yr 7 -9 Boys Oz Tag
  • Yr 7 – 9 Boys AFL
  • Yr 10/11 Mixed Frisbee

The students were very pleased to be able to return to the sporting field and demonstrate their skills and teamwork.

As we finish this year, like all others, there is some Staff movement. I would like to thank the following departing Staff for their work and commitment to the John Therry community over a range of time spans:-

  • Mrs Catherine Waud
  • Ms Amber Meadley
  • Mrs Katrina Blunden
  • Mrs Kim Gotty-Lees
  • Ms Catherine Dunn
  • Ms Hayley Cascarino
  • Mr Tobias Winter

With the Covid restrictions almost changing daily we are hopeful that from the commencement of next year we may almost be back to ‘normal’.

I remind all families that the standards of John Therry need to be met by all students and returning to school next year we expect correct uniform, equipment, hairstyles and punctuality. We have been informed by Lowes that some items of uniform are still delayed in transit or on the wharves.

CAMPBELLTOWN CELEBRATES 200 years – In 1820 the first permanent European settlers came to Campbelltown to commence their lives here. This was the same year that the fledgling colony had their first Catholic Priest arrive – Fr John Joseph Therry. It was not long before Fr Therry had visited the area and commenced lobbying for some land to build a Church. This was the original St John’s, Campbelltown.

We also remember the Dharawal people who have been the custodians of this land we call Campbelltown for 50,000 years.

I wish all families a happy and Holy Advent time, a wonderful Christmas break spent with family and friends and a Happy New Year.
