SPORT REPORT TERM 4

FINALS - Week 8

Term 4 saw MISA given the go ahead, with some adjustments made to the age groups and no Interzone Finals run, in line with COVID-19 Guidelines. In comparison to Term 4 last year, we had an uninterrupted season, and saw the establishment of some dominant young MISA teams. With the modified age group structure we saw many year 7 students get the opportunity to play, with many having their first opportunity to represent the school in a sporting competition. MISA teams and coaches played in extremely hot conditions in a variety of MISA EAST ZONE finals on Tuesday, with all teams finishing a successful 2020 campaign.

6 - 3

Girls played off for 5th place to avoid the wooden spoon. The girls started strong getting two across the plate with some strong batting from Gabby and Laura. After getting two across we failed to capitalize with bases loaded. Fortunately the girls fielded well and prevented Oran Park from taking the lead. This good fielding was replicated in the second innings stopping Oran Park from making any more runs. After batting well in the second innings we ended up winning 6-3.

2 -1

Once again, another intense game from the JT volleyball girls. Fighting for 3rd place, we were up against St Pats once again. After winning the first set, St Pats came back to dominate the second set, with a consecutive 10 points from their serves.

After a team pep talk, the third set came to be the decider. The JT girls were down 11-0 but once they received the serve back they were in attack mode and started to stress the St Pats team with a score of 17-7. Then came the phenomenal serving of both Fanaffi and Reijeli who got the team up to 20-21. It was point for point with the decider having to be a two point advantage. With a scoreboard of 24-24 Leyla served, giving the JT girls a match point advantage of 25-24. Serving again, St Pats returned the serve and with our traditional 'dig set spike' Shanae was able to get the winning point.

An intense and heart palpitation game, but the girls came out as winners.

A good showing against a higher quality opposition. Came up against an opponent who put together a better game on the day. Well done to all the players.

Playing on another scorching day, we were a little slow to start, with not a lot going our way. We went into the second half down, but we were confident we could come back. We started playing as a team and we were able to hold the possession. The girls showed great determination and in the last 5 minutes Alexis and Serafina scored a goal each to take us into the lead. Extremely proud of their efforts to finish with the win and 3rd place, the girls improved with each game over the season. They will be a team to watch in 2021! Congratulations.

7-8 Boys AFL

Mr. Geribo

41 -9

The boys started the game with nervous excitement, having the self-imposed added pressure of being undefeated thus far. Magdalene came out firing, immediately going on the attack and threatening our goal. Some solid tackles from our backline and a good clearance saw us turn around possession and amount some pressure of our own. A couple of quick goals allowed us to settle into the game, with our tackle pressure and intensity around the ball the big difference in the game. Some inaccurate kicking meant we turned possession over more than we would have liked but with our solid backline, and goals coming from both our midfielders and forwards, we were able to take away a well deserved win!

19 - 10

After finishing the regular season undefeated, we entered the grand final as hot favourites to take out the title. It was a scorching hot day and Mt Carmel flew out of the gates early, taking a 4-3 lead at quarter time. A few uncharacteristic mistakes crept into our game and Mt Carmel made us pay. Fortunately the tide started to turn and we were able to gain the ascendancy with some quick touchdowns. Tess and Ella were influential in this comeback thanks to some smart movement inside the end zone, causing headaches for their defenders. It was a high quality game and in the end our quality and athleticism put us in a comfortable position to hold out for a 19-10 victory.

It has been an absolute pleasure coaching this team every week. They have shown fantastic athleticism, but have also listened, followed instructions and executed our game-plan extremely well. Well done all.

MVP - Jayden Cook and Ella Drayton.

Great win to round off the season. Despite some early wickets, the boys chased down the total of 73 in the final over. Terrific highest game batmanship of 28 from RIley Wilson and Brendan Thomas.

What a turn around from last week! A great team effort saw John Therry come out as premiers for 2020. A shout out to Riley Oitmann and Brent Hammond for their leadership today. A fantastic season boys, with a great group of young men.

Tie

4-4

What a day, what a game, what a season. The improvement in each player was the key to their late success today. Defense as strong as the great wall, runs as quick as the road runner, encouragement as loud as Veronika Miziniak's screams. Going into the 2nd half 2-2 spirits were high, unfortunately 2 quick tries from Magdalene put us on the back foot. Leadership from Bridget Shearer and Lily Short lead the ladies back into the game with a late game equalizer from Tarlina Bell to finish at 4-4. Great season from all with outstanding development and encouragement throughout.

MVP - Kaylee Pritchard & Bridget Shearer

MISA East Zone overall position - 4th
