SPORT REPORT TERM 4

Round 2 Week 4 VS Oran Park Anglican College

Reminder: The weather is heating up as we head into Summer. It is really important that students are wearing their hats, bringing a water bottle and applying sunscreen whenever they are participating in practical activities.

This week we faced Oran Park Anglican College in a series of friendly matches. All teams demonstrated a fantastic effort and built on their round 1. This term is a bit shorter than terms 1-3, with many of our competing schools finishing the term at different dates. Our teams have three more rounds to play before the Finals/ Interzone finals on the 1st of December. Good luck to all teams and coaches, keep training and working hard each week.

7-8 Girls Softball

Mr. Webb

JT

9-0

After a disappointing first week the girls bounced back with a huge win over a strong Oran Park outfit. The girls fielded first and kept Oran Park from scoring any runs through some smart fielding. This gave the girls confidence that we could pull off a victory if we could get some runs on the board. Some good hitting and smart movement between bases we managed to get 5 home. The second innings played out in a similar fashion and the girls ran out 9-0 winner. Well deserved!

MVP - Laura Augustine

9-10 Girls Volleyball

Mrs. Pellegrino

JT

2-1

A close game with JT winning the 1st set and OPAC winning the 2nd set by 4 points. After a team briefing, the team dominated the third and final set, winning the game with a 9 point lead in the 3rd set. The girls once again demonstrated exceptional teamwork and sports’woman’ship!

MVP: Fanaafi Fauese

9-10  Boys Volleyball

Mr. Hatton

OPAC

0-2

Fantastic effort by all but let down by some technical skills. Well done to all in a very close game.

MVP: Samiuela Angianga

7-8 Girls AFL

Mrs. Stanley

OPAC

10-11

This week the girls started strong with a fantastic early goal by Serafina. Unfortunately we lost some momentum and allowed the opposition into the game. With a short game this week, due to lack of fields/umpires, we were unable to come back. Another great effort, looking forward to next week.

MVP - Gese Satuatasi

7-8 Boys AFL

Mr. Geribo

JT

62-0

The boys had a really good game today with an excellent result of 62-0. Although we did kick more behinds than what we would’ve wanted to. All in all, it was a great effort and a great result.

MVP - Darcy Wilson

9-10 Mixed Frisbee

Mr. Bodeker

JT

24-15

Another dominant performance from John Therry saw us take home a 24-15 victory against a competitive Oran Park Anglican side. We set the tone early, dominating proceedings with the first four touchdowns of the game. Despite a late comeback, we were never in danger of losing the game and deserved the victory. MVP this week goes to Kaylah Marshall who was involved in everything. Well done.

9-10 Boys indoor Cricket

Mr. Chapman

JT

100-30

Another great game from the John Therry boys. We batted first and had a shaky start before consolidating to a very good total. We bowled well and fielded flawlessly to restrict OPAC to 30 runs.

MVP - Riley Wilson

7-8 Boys Oztag

Mr. McGrath

JT

10-2

A fantastic effort from John Therry especially in the November heat. The boys dominated in attack and defence with Brent leading the way scoring a total of four tries himself. Some positive signs moving forward!

MVP: Brent Hammond

7-8 Girls Oztag

Mrs. Davidson

JT

7-1

The girls played a brilliant defensive game. Jorja, Bridget and Erin were particularly strong, with Bridget, Grace and Savanah making some fast breaks to set up opportunities to score. A great team effort.

MVP: Grace O’Reilly

Our Annual Sports assembly was scheduled  to be held in Week 9, unfortunately due to all the event cancellations as a result of COVID-19, the formal assembly has also been  cancelled.  Students who have participated in MISA or DIO events and who received John Therry Carnival Age Champions will be acknowledged in year meetings this term.
