SPORT REPORT TERM 1 2020 Round 3 vs St Benedict’s Catholic College (Boys) and St. Pats (Girls)

Team

10-12 Boys Basketball

Mr Peters

Win

91-24

Outstanding effort and execution with everyone contributing. Picked up the intensity after a slow start. Great outside shooting against a bigger team with twelve 3 pointers scored

MVP: Moses Bartley

10-12 Girls Basketball

Mr Humbles

Win

34-33

In a huge result, the girls toughed out an exceptional win against a very good St Pat's team.

Throughout the first half we were able to keep pace with a team of tall, experienced basketballers. However, mid way through the second half, St Pat's pulled away to lead by 9. This is when the JT spirit kicked in as we managed to score 13 straight points including a spectacular 3 pointer by Tara Hodson.

Sarah White landed plenty of points, Shontay McClymont defended brilliantly and Nikita Maika-Teal and Piper Takiari controlled the court as JT held on for a 34 - 33 win.

MVP: Sarah White

7-9 Boys Volleyball

Mr Williamson

Win

3-0

A dominant performance and an opportunity to work on improving our teamwork. Unfortunately we struggled to consecutively string good plays together, but the match win was never in doubt.

MVP: Luke Denniss

7-9 Girls Volleyball

Mrs Pellegrino

Loss

0-3

With three very close sets, the JT girls showed great teamwork and support, however this was not enough to win against a very strong St. Pats team.

MVP: Kaylee Pritchard

10-12 Girls Oztag

Mr Tran

Win

6-3

Exhilarating, entertaining, exciting, majestic! And that is just describing the lawn mower in action! Another brilliant game by the Opens Girls Oztag. Lead up front by Jayme MacKenzie straight from the kickoff and backed up by Emily Smidt, showing true prowess in the middle. Great hard fought win against St Pats.

MVP: Emily Smidt

10-12 Boys Oztag

Mr McGrath

Win

11-3

A very slow start saw Benedict’s score 2 early tries. After some outstanding moves by Braydon Wickey, the boys were back. Braiden Timmer showed that he wasn’t giving up by chasing down a Benedicts player right on the line. A much better second half saw us win convincingly in very hot conditions.

MVP Jesse Mundine

7-9 Girls Indoor Cricket

Mr Geribo

Win

71-50

John Therry took on St Pats and were sent into bat after losing the toss. We were put on the back foot after conceding a few early wickets but our second and fourth batting partnerships got us back on track as we posted 71. Our bowling was much more consistent than last week, meaning St Pats still needed 49 from their last pair to win. They were pretty explosive but two wickets in the last two overs meant we were able to come away with a very solid win.

MVP: Grace Augustine

7-9 Boys Softball

Mrs. Stanley

Loss

1-7

Today we faced a tough opposition, with  solid skills across the board. Unfortunately we started slow, similar to last week, and then improved as the game went on. However, this time it proved too little too late and St Benedict’s came away with the win, after scoring 5 of their 7 runs in the first innings. Some great fielding in the second and third, with Oliver, Brendan, Mason and Bailey all taking fantastic catches.

MVP: Bailey White

7-9 Girls Hockey

Mr Chapman

Forfeit

The JT girls, although inexperienced in the game of hockey, certainly made up for it with enthusiasm heading into their very first match against St Pats. Unfortunately, with only one player having shin guards, it meant that JT had to forfeit.

Week 6 will be their time to shine!

DIO Tennis - Week 4

Mr. McKenzie and the tennis team had a great day down at the DIO tennis teams event at Beaton Park. Unfortunately neither team made it past the initial rounds, but all participated well and had a great time.

DIO Boys Touch - Week 5

Mrs. Stanley and Mr. Chapman took the JT Open and U15’s teams down to Thomas Dalton Park, Fairy Meadow for the DIO Touch Carnival. Both teams performed really well, with U15’s finishing 3rd overall and Opens finishing 6th. Feedback given about both teams is that they showed great John Therry spirit and teamwork. Congratulations to the following players who got selected in the Wollongong Diocesan Team:

  • Kye Thompson - 15’s
  • Braydon Wickey – Open
  • Emmanuel Fatialofa - Opens
