AUSTRALIAN CATHOLIC YOUTH FESTIVAL
John Therry’s 2020 YML’s travelled to Perth for the ACYF (Australian Catholic Youth Festival) in early December. The experience was new, exciting and certainly well anticipated. A rare opportunity to further develop our journey of faith and opportunity to perhaps discover our vocation. The festival had its times of reverence in prayer and worship, times of thrill in the song and dance which was on offer, and times of key learning, with workshops which consisted of content which is very applicable to our lives.
I went into ACYF with an open mind and ready for almost anything that came at me. It was my first opportunity to attend something like this where I was able to immerse myself in a dominated Christian community alongside many religious leaders. I believe I came out of the experience with a broader view on the basis of my faith and knowledge which can benefit my everyday life. At ACYF there was a large display of different styles of practising our faith on offers such as adoration, Christian meditation, dancing, labyrinth, worship and general prayer. It allowed us to really open our eyes on taking our faith seriously and how we can interpret that into our lives at home and in school. After witnessing first hand many of the exhibitions, talks and activities at the ACYF festival I was enlightened by everyone’s personal story about their encounter with Christ, and while I myself haven’t had his encounter it was extremely motivational knowing that all of the things talked about is actually real and it can impact the lives of people dramatically.
