PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

ANOTHER YEAR OVER…… MORE TO BE DONE

As I sit at my desk writing this last Newsletter for 2019 I am stunned at how quickly the year seemed to go. This is the completion of my second Year at John Therry and I am so proud of what has been achieved in that time.

There has been a significant effort to improve the ‘look’ of the school grounds. I am a believer that if the place looks good then the students feel better about their school and that translates to improved behavior and learning.

As a Staff we have worked on training in ‘Intentional Teaching’ and ‘Literacy for Learning’. The work undertaken by the Staff in these areas will be used in coming years and the learning outcomes of the students will be improved.

Our Strategic Improvement Plan for 2020 – 2022 has three fundamental areas from which we work.

Mission and Catholicity : Learning and Teaching : People and Culture

From these our four priorities for this plan have come :-

  1. That the Vision and Mission of the school is well known and understood by the school community and underpins all directions and priorities.
  2. To implement and embed whole school approaches to effective literacy and numeracy instruction.
  3. To ensure that high quality assessment is used to ensure improvement in student learning performance and growth.
  4. That we enhance wellbeing of staff and students through developing a safe, respectful and welcoming environment.

In 2018 the School underwent a Review process that identified what we do well and where we need to improve. In 2019 both Mr McAllister and I underwent our Contract Appraisals and received wonderful feedback about our performances. I thank all parents who took the time to be involved in these processes.

In 2019, John Therry was again crowned the MISA Champions – the best sporting school in the Macarthur. Congratulations to all coaches and players and a big thank you to Mr Goodhew for his organisation.

So as we look forward to 2020 as another opportunity to grow and move forward we also look back at 2019 with much pride in what we have achieved.
