YEAR 8 VISUAL ARTS EXCURSION; CAMPBELLTOWN ARTS CENTRE

On Wednesday October 30th, all the Semester 2 Year 8 Visual Arts class visited the Campbelltown Arts Centre. All up approximately 90 students took part in this excursion. All students completed their Critical Study Assessment Tasks on this excursion.

Campbelltown Arts Centre is South West Sydney’s premier cultural venue. The centre aims to engage, inspire and respond to the issues of the region’s communities through the production of contemporary cultural programs. The Centre’s program is multidisciplinary and spans Visual Arts, Music, Dance, Theatre, literature and social history.

The classes focused on this term’s thematic study of three-dimensional form. Students had fun exploring various aspects of the Arts Centre with emphasis on the Sculpture Garden. They visited the Japanese Teahouse Gardens and had an informative introductory talk by their Visual Arts teachers about selected contemporary works from the Sculpture Garden.

Congratulations to all the students on their excellent behavior and application to the task. Thank you especially to Mrs. Fenessy for her presentation and organization of the day and to Mrs. O’Brien, Mr. Peters (Presenters) and Mr. Barton (Year 8 Coordinator) who assisted with the excursion on the day.

YEAR 7 MUSIC INCURSION: BRASS QUINTET

On Friday November 8th, all Year 7 Music students were involved in a very successful Brass Quintet Incursion at School in ‘F Block’. A brass quintet is a five-piece musical ensemble composed of brass instruments. As a common ensemble group, the brass quintet has a broad repertoire containing musical genres from madrigals to jazz.

The incursion involved our Music teachers along with Session Musicians, Musicians from Corrective Services NSW and North West Wind Ensemble. They formed a Brass quintet that demonstrated the instruments of the brass family including the Trumpet, Piccolo Trumpet, straight Trumpet, Bugle, French horn, tenor Trombone, Bass Trombone, Euphonium and Tuba.

The incursion reinforced concepts in a fun way of their ‘Instruments of the Orchestra’ unit of work, which students studied in class. Along with the demonstration of different instruments, students had the opportunity to ask questions and answer questions about the instruments. Thank you especially to Mr. Mayes for organising this event and to Mrs. Morton and Mrs, Blunden who assisted on the day.
