PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
We come to the end of Week 5 of Term 4 and can now start to see the Christmas holidays in the distance. But there is still so much work and learning to do. The concerns over the fire conditions on Tuesday saw the school cancel sports and ensure the physical safety of all students – but we still had almost 400 students fail to attend. I can totally understand families who made this decision because of the locality in which they live or the advice from the RFS (Rural Fire Service) or because of concerns about returning home from school if a fire occurred and therefore being stranded.
However, I can’t understand the parents who allow their children to determine when they attend school when outside these circumstances. A quality education sets our kids up for a brighter future. This can only be attained by continued attendance to receive the instruction and learning that they need to succeed in life.
We need to work together to get the best results for all John Therry students.
I have to say that the students have certainly risen to the new expectations of behaviour and academic application. And I can confidently say that the staff are working hard on improving the learning to get better results and outcomes for the students.
WORKING BEE
It was great to see that we had almost forty parents and students attend the Working bee. We achieved a lot in trying to improve the physical conditions that your children attend each school day.
Working bees will be held twice a year, normally the first weekend in March and November (this may change slightly because of other events). Attending the WB is a way of giving something to the school that will pay off for future generations of John Therry students, as well as the current ones and only occupies a short time. We normally start around 9.00 and finish around 11.00 with a BBQ lunch and all out by 12.00noon.
Why not put these dates into your diary and come along with your child and enjoy the day.
HSC NOMINATION SUCCESS
We received the news during the week that several of our HSC students have produced work of such a high quality that they are being considered for the highest accolade – inclusion on the annual HSC exhibitions.
The prestigious ARTEXPRESS exhibition has two nominees and we are so very proud of :-
Erin LaRue (whose work is titled - From My Perspective: Routine 441) and
Soana Talanoa (The Pursuit of Happiness)
In the Drama section we also congratulate Soana Talanoa (again) for her selection to the OnStage event at the Seymour Centre in February.
We wish these students all the very best for the final selection process.
YEAR 12 FORMAL
What a wonderful evening we had on Wednesday night to celebrate the completion of the HSC and the final step in the Yr 12 journey.
