10 - 12 Boys Indoor Cricket

In our first match of the season, John Therry played against a strong Macarthur Anglican team. We won the toss and the boys were enthusiastic to bowl first. Macarthur Anglican started strong with their first batting pair hitting 25 runs. We fought back really well to keep them to a manageable total. Our batting innings mirrored Macarthur Anglican’s as we started with a 29 run partnership and then had a middle order collapse. When the last pair came out to bat, we needed 10 runs from 12 balls to get the win and Nick Augustine managed the game to perfection.

Most of this group of boys have played together for the last few years and  turned up pretty prepared after a couple of trial/training sessions (apart from a few missing mouthguards). This showed immediately in our midfield as some quality work from Cohan and Josh in the middle provided good service to our forwards, who were able to make an impact on the scoreboard. It was a pretty impressive display across the park and we aim to maintain a strong defensive record going forward.

The 10-12 AFL girls played well in their first game together today. We came up against Thomas Hassall, who had reportedly defeated our girls last year. However, our team proved we were still a strong and competitive side, taking the lead early in the game. It was a team goal brilliantly finished by Chloe. Thomas Hassal managed to equalise and at one point overtook us on the score card. With Ava, one of our key players off injured, a win was seemingly slipping away however the girls held on and managed to come away with a draw. Some outstanding performances from all players, especially our debutantes.

Our Year 7/8 Division 1 netball team made an impressive debut together against a formidable St. Patrick's College. Despite St. Pat's shooters demonstrating exceptional accuracy, our defence was truly outstanding. Lily was a force to be reckoned with, consistently taking intercept after intercept, showcasing incredible anticipation and agility. Complementing this, Layla was our pocket rocket in the center court, providing tenacious support, driving the ball forward, and disrupting the opposition's flow.

The team worked incredibly well as a cohesive unit, displaying remarkable competitive spirit throughout the game. They consistently fought hard to gain possession and demonstrated excellent teamwork in moving the ball effectively into our goal area, creating scoring opportunities. While the final score of 41-5 doesn't fully reflect the intensity and effort put in, it was a fantastic and invaluable learning experience for all the girls. Their teamwork, determination, and positive attitude were truly impressive, setting a strong foundation for the season ahead. Great work, girls!

Today, for our first game, we came up against a very strong St Pat's team. Our opposition shooters barely missed a goal. Whilst we didn't have many opportunities down our goal end, we still kept trying. The girls continued to put in effort, despite trailing the entire game. Some great defensive touches from Madden. I'm sure we can improve for next week.

A tricky game today against quality opposition, with Magdalene having a quality contingent of strong rep players. After being kept to 0 in the first quarter, with Magdalene scoring 11 unanswered goals - we worked on setting small chunked goals of 3 goals per quarter and trying to keep Magdalene to 6 per quarter. We struggled to score goals but did keep Magdalene’s score consistently lower than that first quarter. Looking forward to our game next week as we continue to improve and grow as a team.

a reasonable first game but ultimately outclassed by the opposition. Stronger in the contest and better execution of passes. A well taken goal from Phoenix after good lead up play but we will need to show better ball movement up the field if we are going to achieve success.

We faced Magdalene in a Grand Final rematch from last season with JT fighting back to have a 2-2 draw. We started strong and created several good chances but were unable to capitalise. Magdalene were able to make the most of their limited chances in the first half and scored just before half time. With only seconds left in the first half, we gave away a penalty which was missed by Magdalene. We went into half time with some confidence knowing that we could get back in the game. We started strong in the 2nd half and quickly equalised thanks to some great work from Levi and Austin Boxsell. It was back and forth for the next 10 minutes with both teams squandering good chances to take the lead. Unfortunately Magdalene were able to capitalise on a counter attack and tucked away a nice attacking move to make it 2-1. With 5 minutes left, John Therry lifted and once again Austin was able to put away a slick attacking move to make it 2-2. We had a few chances to win it but were unable to capitalise and had to settle for a 2-2 draw. Despite not playing our best, the boys were able to fight their way back into the game on multiple occasions and should be proud of their efforts. Shoutout to Xavier who made several saves to keep us in the game in the first half. Our best players on the day were Levi, Austin and Xavier with Austin getting MVP for our first game.

V Magdalene

Round 1 of the Term 3 competition saw us up against our rivals Magdalene Catholic College. With both teams well represented by NPL players, the game was set to be a good one.

The field was green but not friendly as both teams struggled to maintain possession, but when they did, were able to create scoring opportunities, with JT having most of the scoring chances. Shout out to stand in keeper Floilan who handled the debut game with confidence and skill.

Cooper Marshall and Cooper Firman were strong and were almost on the scoresheet, but we were goalless at the break. Second half into the wind was our friend as we chasnged out tactics to finding the pockets out wide, and after several chances, our goal came from a poorly executed Magdalene back pass, in which Davonne converted. We then resorted to bolstering our backline as we saw the rest of the game out.

The 7-9 Soccer Girls went into our first round without much hope, having struggled to fill a team of 11 and missing so many key players from previous years, the odds were backed against us heavily. An early penalty scored by debutant Ivy Smith (Year 8) put us in the lead 1-0 before the opposition equalised with a stunning goal. They soon doubled their tally, capitalising on a mistake from our defence. The extra player and options on the bench for our opposition soon became evident as an advantage as they netted a third goal on the brink of half time to make it 3-1 their way.
A small tactical switch up and some inspiring team spirit brought out a vibrant attacking display in the second half. Goalscorer and lone striker Ivy Smith added 2 more goals to her bank making it a superb hattrick for herself and 3-3 towards the latter stages of the game. Despite some extraordinary saves from goalkeeper Matilda Sasse (Year 8) including a near-guaranteed 1v1, an individual moment of brilliance from an opposition player clinched a goal for our opponents to end the game 4-3.
Despite playing with only 10 players on the field throughout the whole game, having no substitutes and having the majority of the team consisting of Year 7s and 8s, we still gave Magdalene a run for their money. Although the scoreline shows a loss, the girls performed above and beyond, even gaining the respect of the opposition coaches and players.

JT played against Broughton in a closely fought contest. Broughton batted first and started really slowly due to some really good bowling. We had lots of energy in the field and we were able to create lots of run out chances to keep the opposition to 56. JT was steady with the bat, but we lost regular wickets and could never quite get into a dominant position in the match. On the last ball, we had a chance to steal an unlikely victory, but fell just short.

Our Year 7/8 Division 1 netball team delivered an outstanding and competitive performance against tough opposition. Our shooters worked hard, using space well, but faced a tenacious opposing defense. On the defensive end, our players were exceptional, making critical intercepts and applying strong pressure.

The center court players showed significant improvement, moving the ball fluidly down the court. Their teamwork has truly improved out of sight. Overall, it was a great display of competitive spirit and growth against formidable competition.

The girls put in a great team effort today. Despite the scoreline the girls continued to compete for the ball in defence. Paityn had a very strong game in C, helping  to move the ball down the court in attack. We played much more cohesively, but unfortunately were no match for our opposition, going down 35-7. Special mention goes to Belle who had a great game in WD and also Katie for playing an unfamiliar position. Well done girls.

The girls played an excellent game today after a difficult loss last week. It was a low scoring game, but still a thrilling game with lots of ball seen at both ends. Both circles struggled with feeding the ball in and transition down the court. JT had a small lead for most of the game, but two quick goals in the last three minutes sealed the draw.
