YEAR 7 ENGLISH - EXPLORING ABORIGINAL PERSPECTIVES
As part of our current unit on Aboriginal perspectives, Year 7 students were fortunate to take their learning beyond the classroom and into our Aboriginal garden. During our lesson Aunty Cherrylle, delivered a powerful and moving talk about Country, community, and culture. Her words offered deep insights into the significance of the land and the importance of respect.
The garden came alive with learning as students listened to the story of the Dharawal people and the unique connection Father John Therry had with the local land. Year 10 and 11 students enriched the experience by playing the didgeridoo, adding a musical layer to the cultural exploration.
Students also had the opportunity to share aspects of their own cultures and reflect on the common threads of respect, identity, and belonging. Many felt a strong connection to the natural surroundings which made the experience even more meaningful.
