JTCC SPORT UPDATE - Term 2, Week 9

JTCC Sport Update – A Big Term of Sport and Success

Term 2 has been a huge one so far for JTCC Sport, filled with participation, passion, and plenty of highlights. One of our standout moments was the JTCC Athletics Carnival, where students smashed an incredible 12  JT College records.A true testament to the talent and dedication of our athletes. Off the back of this success, we’re proud to be sending a strong team of 75 students to represent the College at the Diocesan Athletics Carnival in Week 5, Term 3.

Across a host of Diocese carnivals we had some fantastic performances and days of great team bonding and athletic ability. Diocesan Netball was another fantastic day out, with five JTCC teams hitting the court. A special mention goes to our inaugural Open Boys team, who made their debut with great enthusiasm and spirit. It was a brilliant showcase of teamwork, fun, and JT pride across all divisions. We also had a great day at the Diocese Hockey Carnival, with all students having a fantastic day in a sport that JT doesn’t usually perform well at, but our boys team showed their hidden talents and finished 3rd overall. 

A special mention to our Year 9/10 boys basketball team  delivered an outstanding performance at the CCC Knockout Tournament, showcasing teamwork, determination, and a commitment to excellence. The team’s synergy was evident as they maintained control from start to finish. Moving forward, building on this momentum will set them up for continued success as the Diocsan representatives at the CCC competition in Term 4. Well done, boys!

With all our major College sporting carnivals now completed for 2025, we’re looking forward to announcing the final House Cup results at the JT Sport Assembly in December —a celebration of the incredible sporting achievements and house spirit shown throughout the year.

Term 2 saw some fantastic performances across all our MISA teams, with outstanding commitment, sportsmanship and teamwork on display each week.

• Junior Girls put in a consistent effort throughout the competition, showing great growth and resilience to finish in 4th place overall after two terms.
  
  
• Senior Girls matched that effort, also finishing in 4th place, with some incredibly close games that could have gone either way.
  
  
• Our Junior Boys are showcasing some standout performers, going head-to-head with strong competition and ultimately taking out 1st place—just 0.5 points ahead of BAC in a nail-biting finish.
  
  
• Senior Boys continued their dominance from term 1, securing 1st place with confident and coordinated team plays across divisions.
  
  

These individual team results contributed to an outstanding overall result of 2nd place in the Overall schools MISA competition, with a total of 323 points. We were narrowly edged out by MCCC, who finished on 368 points.

MISA Term 2 RESULTS

These results reflect the depth of talent across our school and the dedication of both students and staff. A massive congratulations to all players and coaches involved—your efforts continue to make us proud!

Looking ahead, Term 3 continues to be jam-packed with school sport, MISA and Diocesan competitions, and a range of sport pathway opportunities. It’s a great chance for students to step up, get involved, and give their best—whether for their house, their team, or themselves.

While this term has been filled with highlights, it hasn’t been without challenges. Wet weather early on led to the postponement of the Diocesan Cross Country Carnival and Open Girls Football Championships, as well as several MISA Round 2 fixtures. In true JT fashion, our students responded with resilience, showing that sport is about more than results—it’s about adaptability, commitment, and teamwork.

Across all levels, we’ve seen students leading with integrity, supporting one another, and proudly representing JTCC. From early morning trials to competitive matches, their efforts have been outstanding.

As the term continues, we look forward to even more opportunities to celebrate the determination, sportsmanship, and pride our students bring to every event.

MISA FINALS

AGE GROUP: 9/10

MVP: Moni and Deng

The Year 9/10 boys delivered an outstanding performance today at the CCC Knockout Tournament, showcasing teamwork, determination, and a commitment to excellence. In the first game against Holy Spirit Catholic College, the boys set the tone early with a dominant defensive display, securing a commanding 52-21 victory. Moni, Deng, and Azor led the charge offensively, with Moni making his presence felt under the basket through relentless offensive rebounds and putbacks. The team’s synergy was evident as they maintained control from start to finish.

The grand final against St Joseph’s Catholic College, Albion Park, proved to be a much tougher contest. Knowing they were up against a gifted scorer, Jean and Deng stepped up defensively, locking down key players and forcing turnovers that translated into crucial points. With a 6-point lead at half-time, the team continued to fight hard, with Moni, Izaiah, Deng, and Jean consistently finding ways to score. Their collective effort, coupled with a strong defensive mindset, sealed a hard-fought 65-51 win, earning them the championship.

This was a true team effort that highlighted the boys’ resilience, skill, and sportsmanship. With a strong defensive foundation and contributions from across the roster, the team can be proud of their performance. Moving forward, building on this momentum will set them up for continued success for the CCC competition in Term 4. Well done, boys!

DIO Netball 

AGE GROUP: Year 7/8 Girls - Div 1 

MVP: Ruby Dunn

On the 13th of June, 2025, the Year 7/8 Division 1 Girls Netball team proudly represented John Therry Catholic College at the Diocesan Netball Carnival held at Berkeley Sports.

Throughout the day, the girls demonstrated outstanding positivity, teamwork, and resilience. Despite facing tough competition, they never lost their spirit - encouraging one another and staying focused in each game. The team secured one very close win and a hard-fought draw, finishing 6th overall in a very competitive division. They showed great potential and have the ability to certainly have secured a few more wins.While they sometimes struggled to convert their efforts into points on the scoreboard, their determination and ability to stay composed under pressure was a highlight of the day.

Special mention goes to Ruby Dunn, who was a quiet workhorse in the centre court, delivering consistent performances all day. Madden and Piper stood tall in defence, working tirelessly to shut down opposition attacks. In the middle, Layla and Elkie formed an energetic and dynamic duo, controlling the centre court with great connection - though they might agree the shooting circle wasn’t their favourite place to be!

The team should be proud of how they represented the College - with heart, unity, and a positive attitude from the first whistle to the last.

AGE GROUP: Year 7/8 Girls - Div 2

On Friday 13 June, a dedicated group of students proudly represented John Therry Catholic College at the Diocesan Netball Day held at Berkeley Sports Complex.

Despite the chilly weather, our girls were full of enthusiasm and ready to give their all on the court. With nine games scheduled throughout the day, and breaks between each match, the girls had plenty of opportunities to learn, adapt, and support one another.

From the first whistle to the last, the team demonstrated incredible determination and school spirit. They faced some tough opponents, but that John Therry spirit was on display.The players encouraged each other, and maintained a positive attitude through every challenge. The final game ended in a well-earned draw against [insert team name], a fitting conclusion to a day filled with effort and heart.

Several players were asked to step into unfamiliar positions, and each one embraced the challenge with courage and composure. 

By the end of the day, the girls had grown in both confidence and skill. More importantly, they thoroughly enjoyed the experience and represented John Therry with pride, resilience, and grace.

A sincere thank you to all the players for making my first Diocesan Netball Day such a rewarding and enjoyable experience. Your sportsmanship and school pride were truly inspiring.

Blustery winds and chilly conditions set the stage for a tough day of netball at the Diocese of Wollongong Championship—but our Year 9/10 Girls team rose to the challenge with determination, grit, and plenty of heart.

Despite not recording a win on the scoreboard, the girls put up a strong fight in every game. Led by our determined captain, Chelsea - from the very first centre pass, it was clear they were there to compete. Each match saw moments of great teamwork, sharp passes, and impressive defensive efforts that kept their opponents on their toes.

The cold and wind made play difficult at times, but our team never let the conditions get the better of them. Instead, they dug deep and stayed focused, showing fantastic resilience and a positive attitude that didn’t go unnoticed by spectators and staff.

What stood out most was their team spirit and the care demonstrated towards each other. Whether on court or cheering from the sidelines, the girls supported one another every step of the way - particularly Rachel and Rylee, who were the backbone of the day! Everything ran smoothly and strategically as they committed their energy and talents to the team. The team's energy, sportsmanship, and commitment were truly admirable. 

Special mentions go to some standout performers on the day:
Sienna and Nahli were unstoppable in defence, calmly reading the play and shutting down attacking drives with grit and precision. Dimity worked relentlessly in the shooting circle, determined and unwavering - shooting many goals under pressure. Jada brought passionate spirit and energy across every position she played, an all-rounder in every sense of the word. A huge thank you to Ella, Olivia and Amelia, who demonstrated positive adaptability and selflessness - supporting the whole by jumping into many new positions. 

A huge congratulations to the team—you represented your school with courage, class, and plenty of heart!

AGE GROUP: Year 11/ 12 Girls

On the 13th of June, 2025, the 11/12 Girls Netball team proudly represented John Therry Catholic College at the Diocesan Netball Carnival held at Berkeley Sports. Competing against schools across the region, the girls displayed impressive determination, teamwork, and sportsmanship throughout a challenging and fast-paced day of netball.

The day began with high energy and a strong focus, as the girls took to the courts for five preliminary games. Despite facing two very tough opponents—St John’s and St Mary’s—and falling short in those matches, the team rallied together to secure three convincing wins in their remaining games. Their strong defensive efforts and positive communication were standouts across the day. The team’s consistency and spirit saw them progress to the finals, where they faced more intense competition. Although they were unable to claim victory in the two finals matches, the girls finished a respectable 8th overall in the carnival.

Overall, the girls demonstrated outstanding commitment, resilience, and pride in representing John Therry. Their sportsmanship and defensive strength remained a highlight of the day, and they left the courts with their heads held high, having competed with heart and unity.

AGE GROUP: Open Boys

MVP: Cooper Wells

Our first-ever Open Boys Netball team made a fantastic debut, showcasing determination, athleticism, and a strong team spirit throughout the competition. Despite being new to the sport, the boys adapted quickly, applying their athletic skills with enthusiasm and commitment. The team secured a few impressive wins and demonstrated resilience in the games they didn’t take out, never losing their positive attitude or drive to improve.

More than just results, the experience proved to be a valuable introduction to netball. The players learned about positioning, ball movement, and teamwork in a fast-paced environment, with each match building their confidence and understanding of the game.

I am incredibly proud of how the boys represented themselves and their school. Their effort has laid a solid foundation for future participation in boys netball, and I look forward to seeing this team grow.

DIO Hockey

Diocesan Girls Hockey  -  Term 2, 2025

AGE GROUP: Open Girls

MVP: Kiara Jakobsson 

The Open Girls Diocesan Hockey Team were up bright and early to head down to Narellan Sports Hub for a fun day of competition against a number of rival Wollongong Dio schools.

Placed in Pool B, we opened the day against a talented Corpus Christi side who came away with a 4–0 win. Our second game proved to be the toughest loss of the day, going down 7–0 to Magdalene but not before Jade showed them that we were still competitive with a tackle that earned her a two-minute bin.

Our final pool match was against St Benedict’s, where we went down 6–0. With a two-hour break before the 6th vs 7th playoff, the girls took the chance to refuel with plenty of nutritious food and drinks, and spent time reflecting on strategies and tactics for one final push.

Special shoutout to Kiara and Gwen for their outstanding leadership and wise insight, drawn from both current and past hockey experience. And an even bigger shoutout to Paige, who fearlessly stepped up as our goalie for the day. Despite constantly battling a malfunctioning uniform that made her pretty unrecognisable, she took every hit with courage and commitment.
