PRINCIPALS REPORT
On Sunday 29th July we celebrate the feast of St Peter and St Paul. These were ultimately two giants in the establishment of the Church, with St Peter being the one that Jesus passed on the keys of heaven to in establishing the Church, and St Paul being one of the most prominent theologians who spread the Good News after Jesus' death and ressurection.
For me, quite significant though is that both were certainly flawed and made mistakes in their lives. Peter denied Jesus three times as He was crucified, and Paul was a key persecutor of early Christians before his dramatic conversion.
Their stories remind us that God doesn’t call us to be perfect, but to be faithful and willing. Despite their flaws, St Peter and St Paul were transformed by God's grace and became powerful instruments of His work. Like them, we are invited to trust in God’s mercy, do our best each day, and remember that even in our imperfections, we can be part of building something truly meaningful.
I attended the Year 7 Camp on Thursday 19th and Friday 20th June at the Narrabeen Sport and Recreation Centre. The camp plays an important role in helping our Year 7 students build connections, while also offering an experience of personal challenge and growth. I was extremely impressed with how the students embraced the experience, showing great respect and enthusiasm throughout. Both our teachers and the camp staff had only positive things to say about the group, which is a real credit to the students. I’d like to thank the teachers who generously gave their time to attend the camp and make this valuable experience possible.
This Thursday afternoon and Friday morning, we will be holding our half-yearly Parent-Teacher Interviews. These interviews are an important opportunity to reflect on student progress during the first semester and to discuss areas for future growth. One of the most powerful ways we can support students in their learning is by showing them that we value their education. Attending Parent-Teacher Interviews is a meaningful way to do this, and I hope to see many of you there.
Thanks to our parents who attended the P & F Meeting on Tuesday 17th June. It is always a good evening of discussion and some key decisions were made on how to spend P & F funds to support our students at John Therry. Investments in new equipment for our Wood work rooms, sports faculty and IT department were made and will make a significant difference in these areas. We would love to see more parents attend and have a say in the future.
We had over 80% of our Year 10 students and families attend our careers and subject preference evening on Tuesday 24th June. I thank all of the employers and education providers who came, as well as our staff who were available to discuss this different subjects available in Year 11 2026. Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive and this model appears to be highly valued and we will look to continue into the future.
