BANGAWARRA DAY
A Celebration of Culture and Opportunity
On Wednesday 21 May, students from across the Diocese of Wollongong gathered at the Kiama Pavilion for Bangawarra Day – an event that blended cultural connection with career exploration.
The day began with a welcome onto Dharawal Country and a Smoking Ceremony, led by local Elders and our John Therry Catholic College dancers. We were proud of our students who took part in the introduction and welcome to the day. Through traditional dance and music, they contributed in a meaningful way to the opening of the event. Their involvement reflected the importance of culture and community and helped set a respectful tone for the day.
Students also heard from former Bangawarra participants, including our very own Kalan Nau, who shared how their experiences at previous events helped shape their pathway into further education and training. Hearing their stories allowed current students to relate and see what’s possible when culture, community and career come together.
Students then had the opportunity to connect with a wide range of career exhibitors, including training organisations, universities and community services. The event encouraged students to explore pathways aligned with their passions.
