JTCC SPORT UPDATE - Term 1, Week 4
Welcome to Week 4. We are definitely now back into the rhythm of sport and we had a smooth first week back in Week 3. We have had our first round of MISA and into our second rotation of REC and Grade Sport. There are a number of upcoming college and Diocesan Sport events happening soon, with lots of great opportunities for our students. I also want to extend a big thank you to the majority of our college cohort that have returned their General Sports Permission Note.
A reminder that all individual pathway nominations for Diocesan Sports (eg. rugby league, netball, football) are on Compass - please fill out a the relevant nomination forms there.
Round 1 of MISA started this week . It is also vital for ALL students to return their General Sports Permission note via the parent portal on Compass. Students who do not have this returned will be unable to go off-site for sport or participate in our college swimming carnival.

47-54 Loss |
Despite a spirited effort, the John Therry boys' basketball team faced a challenging game, resulting in a 47-54 loss. The opposition's impressive shooting made it difficult for JT to close the gap, while our team's poor shooting hindered their performance. Moving forward, the focus will be on improving our defense to limit opponents' scoring opportunities and create more offensive chances. The team aims to bounce back stronger in upcoming games as we rectify our defence ?? |

25-45 Win |
A dominant performance by the JTCC senior girls in their first game back against Mount Carmel. Fantastic ball movement around the team created plentiful scoring opportunities that the girls capitalised on. Georgina Akol is our MVP for this week, scoring a whopping 32 points. |

9-4 Loss |
We managed to find our self on the back foot straight from the kickoff. They found a way to get through our defence on their first opportunity and went the full field to score a try. We had glimpses of hope throughout the game, but our constant errors saw us defend for too long. A disappointing start to the MISA season but we will be better next week. |

Open Girls OzTag |
M. Tran |
13-0 L |
Great sunny day for oztag, really good for the girls to get out there and play, for round 1. Despite the unfortunate loss, there were some great tags and runs made. |
Chloe Donovan |
7 - 9 Boys Volleyball |
N. Williamson |
3-0 win |
Good start to the season with room for improvement. We got away to a flyer with a comfortable win in the first set. Improvement from the opposition and some simple errors led to a very tight second game. Also did well to come from behind in the third set and take the match. |

7 - 9 Girls Volleyball |
M. Hynard |
0-3 loss |
The girls’ started their first match of the season with impressive energy and determination. The first set was surprisingly close (25-21). Despite narrowly losing the set, the team showed promise and cohesion on the court. In the following two sets, the girls struggled a little to maintain focus with communication breaking down. The team found it challenging to recover from set two. While the result wasn’t in their favour, there were plenty of positive takeaways from their strong opening set. With time to practice their teamwork, the season holds great potential for improvement. |

7 - 9 Girls Indoor Cricket |
A. Chapman |
84-52 win |
The JT girls had their first match of the season against Broughton. We were really nervous before the game, however, they fielded with great effort and enthusiasm which settled the nerves. We didn’t take many wickets, but our ground fielding helped restrict the opposition. With the bat, all pairs batted sensibly and ensured that we secured the win. A really good team performance. |

7 - 9 Boys Softball |
D. Hatton |
10-0 WIN |
A comprehensive performance from the JT boys saw them gain a fantastic win today. Fielding first with great communication from all the opposition was kept to 0. We then batted and scored 5 runs for no outs and closed the innings. The second innings was a little tougher with one of their runners getting to third but the batters were all out. The second inning batting was just as good as the first with a monster hit from Noah Atkins getting two runners home. JT eventually got another 5 runs and closed the game out. It’s hard to pick an MVP this week as everybody did their job very well but Brayden Matthew at 1st base was very good. Well done and let’s do it again next week. |

Pathway Achievements
Last week Nick (year 10) attended the NSWCCC U18 Cricket trials and had a really strong performance. He progressed through to the final 16 players to go through another rigorous round of trials and just missed out on being selected in the final team of 12. Well done on your efforts Nick, as the majority of the 2025 team of 12 are in year 12!
This week we also had 3 students attend the NSWCCC Softball Trials, Dante (year 10), Mikaela (year 8) and Primrose (year 7). The students represented JTCC proudly, and Dante was again selected in the NSWCCC U18 team. Dante has been a prominent member of the NSWCCC Softball for a number of years - we look forward to seeing what he can achieve this year!
