 NEW SCHOOL LEADERS FOR 2020

In schools we have two different slants on the commencement of the year. There is the calendar year that defines a move to another year of study, however, this only applies to the Junior School. In the senior school the year commences with Term 4 and concludes at the end of Term 3 the following year. This signals the end of formal lessons for the Year 12 students and the commencement of their final exams (HSC). This time also has a very significant milestone - and that is the changeover of student leaders within the school.

After a stringent process of nominations and voting that saw a group of fourteen emerge as the leaders for 2020, they had a day of intensive leadership activity to discern the School Captains. I am very proud to announce the student leaders at John Therry Catholic High School for 2020.

BR ROBERT’S RETURN VISIT

On Thursday we had Br Robert return to John Therry from his current posting in Timor Leste (or East Timor). His work there had been in the Teachers College run by the Marist Brothers but is now in the Formation House, where he works with young men who are aspiring (aspirants) to become Marist Brothers.

At the Assembly he presented a short history of this very small country which is our nearest neighbor, and the aspirants were introduced and sang to the school in tetun, their native language. A tour of the school and new church had them amazed, as the resources in their own country are so poor. After lunch, one of the aspirants, Rogerio, commented that it was nice to have a meal that had no rice in it.
