TAIKO DRUMMING
Year 8 Students Experience the Rhythm of Taiko Drumming
Friday of Week 6 brought an exciting cultural experience for Year 8 Japanese students and Japanese elective students as they picked up their bachi (drumsticks) and embraced the art of taiko, traditional Japanese drumming.
The session, led by Kiyomi from Tyke-Oh Japanese Drumming, began with a demonstration of the correct way to hold the bachi, position themselves around the drum, and follow the beat. Students quickly picked up the rhythm, rotating around the circle to create a unified and powerful sound.
The workshop not only offered a hands-on experience with a significant aspect of Japanese culture but also encouraged teamwork and coordination. By the end of the session, the group’s effort and enthusiasm had transformed individual beats into a synchronized performance.
This unique activity enriched the students’ understanding of Japanese culture and was a memorable highlight of their language studies. Well done to all students for their incredible effort and teamwork!
