ILLUMINATE PRIZE WINNER
Congratulations to Year 12 Visual Arts student Angelica Jeanneret. She was the recipient of the ‘Packing Room’ prize for her Visual Arts body of work : ‘Ioche’. It was judged as the best work from all Wollongong Diocesan schools at the Inaugural ‘Illuminate’ Creative Arts Showcase.
Angelica stated that ‘“Ioche” explores the disconnection of self through the transition into adolescence.
My title “Ioche”, means the fear and realisation of the uncomfortability with being an individual. A term which synthesises my depiction of the adolescent journey to developing your own identity. My self portraits portray an evocative monochromatic scale to convey isolation and self reflection. I utilised demand gaze as if staring in the mirror, capturing the discomfort with the person in the reflection. The distortion of the portrait displays the separation from identity, representing the adolescent experience of enduring changes and new concepts that complicate one’s understanding of the world and oneself’.
