MY STRENGTHS WORKSHOPS
Throughout Term 2, JTCC was thrilled to welcome the My Strengths team to the college to conduct Wellbeing incursions for Years 7, 10, and 11. These students participated in strengths-based workshops designed to help uncover their unique, individual strengths and understand how to leverage them effectively in their academic journey and beyond.
During the workshops, students learned how to:
- Identify their top 5 strengths through guided assessments.
- Apply these strengths to achieve academic and personal goals.
- Connect with peers who share similar strengths and interests.
- Gain insights from experienced facilitators on maximizing their potential.
In addition to the student workshops, the Leaders of Wellbeing recently completed facilitator training with the My Strengths team. They are now prepared to make a positive impact on their year groups and the college community through upcoming pastoral lessons.
Both staff and students found the My Strengths incursions to be a valuable experience that not only enhanced self-awareness but also provided practical tools for personal and academic growth. Integrating these insights into future pastoral care lessons will be a great way to further support and encourage student well-being.
Looking ahead to early Term 3, we are eagerly anticipating Year 8's participation in the My Strengths program, building on the positive outcomes and enthusiasm seen in previous sessions with Years 7, 10, and 11.
We spoke to some students to hear their thoughts on the incursion, and here's what they had to say:
Sofia (Year 11)
Tell us your top strength you discovered today
Today I participated in the My Strengths incursion, discovering my top strength to be Purpose. For me, purpose means that I am going to continue to help others all my life, continuing to advocate for others. I want to make a change in politics and spend all my time, money, effort, and strength assisting other people.
What would your dream future look like?
My dream future would be a world where equity is of the utmost importance, and people chose love over war. A long-term goal of mine is to become the Prime Minister, but making a significant difference in women's affairs and human rights is where I want to be.
Are there any other strengths of yours that play into your future plans?
I have a strong leadership strength which I think will help me a lot. I care a lot about harmony which was another one of my strengths I found today. I want people to live their life without having to experience horrible conflict and I want to be the glue that holds that together.
Laura (Year 11)
Tell us your top strength you discovered today
Today I participated in the My Strengths incursion and found my top strength to be Practical. I like to be hands-on and in the action all the time.
What does that strength mean for the way you live or the things you are interested in?
I will always be within the action and doing things that are very physical and practical in my life.
Are you gifted in sport or the way you learn?
My practical strength definitely plays into my sporting community, as well as learning through hands-on activities.
What does your future look like?
I have no idea what my future looks like, but maybe I can use some of my strengths that I learnt today to figure out what I want to do.
Using the skills and knowledge imparted on them through the incursion, students ranked their top 3 strengths that they would like to further develop:
YEAR 7 | 1. Energetic | 2. Humour | 3. Loyalty |
YEAR 10 | 1. Loyalty | 2. Practical | 3. Harmony |
YEAR 11 | 1. Practical | 2. Loyalty | 3. Winner |
The My Strengths workshops have truly made a positive impact on our students, and we look forward to continuing this journey of self-discovery and growth.
