Exciting Times in the Science Faculty
This term has been especially busy for the Science Faculty, with students engaging in a variety of hands-on learning experiences.
In Week 3, our Year 11 Investigating Science students visited Mandurama Reserve to conduct an important scientific investigation focused on water quality. Equipped with Vernier data loggers, the students measured pH, dissolved oxygen levels, water temperature, and turbidity. This fieldwork provided them with invaluable practical experience in environmental science.
During the same week, our Year 12 Biology students took part in an intensive DNA profiling workshop. The students were tasked with analyzing human DNA samples from a mock crime scene and comparing them to "suspect" DNA samples to identify the perpetrator. This workshop allowed them to apply advanced techniques such as micropipetting, gel electrophoresis, and restriction digest, skills they developed during the AMGEN Biotech Experience.
These activities highlight the dynamic and practical learning opportunities available to our students, fostering their scientific curiosity and expertise. Well done to all our students for their dedication and enthusiasm!
