JTCC SPORT UPDATE
Term 1 Week 5

MISA UPDATE:

After a disrupted opening two rounds of the MISA competition, with extreme heat, storms and wet weather, it was good to get the feet on the ground and complete a full round of fixtures.

Our Open Boys Basketball and 7 - 9  Boys Softball have secured two wins from their opening two games to sit on top of the table. Good luck to all teams against Mt Carmel next week.

Round 1 Result:

Team

W/L - Result

Match Report

MVP

10-12 Boys Basketball

Won 64-25

The boys had a rough start with Broughton hitting tough shots over some of the boys however our defence was on full display keeping the to 14 points at half time. The defence was maintained and we were able to get easy layups as a reward for our tough defence. We will continue to work on this defence has a focal point of our season.

Garang Bol

10-12 Girls Basketball

Won 23-12

The girls came into their first game confident and it reflected their performance,  winning by a convincing 11 points. Defensive highlights from Annelise Hall and  Madi Albrow kept opposing points to a minimum, and Georgina’s superior offence kept our lead comfortable.

MVP = Georgina Akol

18 point - Georgina Akol

4 points - Annelise Hall

2  points - Alexis Paulo

Georgina Akol

10-12 Boys Oz Tag

Unfortunately mother nature took the win here as all games were washed out.

10-12 Girls Oz Tag

7-9 Girls Indoor Cricket

Lost 104-49

7-9 Boys Softball

Won 5-0

The boys turned up for the first game of the season, full of energy and raring to go. JT fielded first and with some excellent pitching from Noah and some great all round effort, we restricted Mt. Carmel to no runs. Some smart play and big hitting from Thomas, Nick and Nathaniel got us to 5 runs before the rain came.

Noah Atkins

7-9 Boys Volleyball

Loss 2-1

A good first up game with a lot of enthusiasm and effort from our team. Did well to win the second set and come close in the decider. A few less simple mistakes should see us cruise to victory next time.

Dante Fowraker

7-9 Girls Volleyball

Won 3-0

What a start to the season! The girls played extremely well in the first set winning 25-9 with fabulous serving by Emerson and Maddy. The second set was far closer as the girls became a little too confident with less movement around the court when being served to. The third set was a white wash once again as the girls became familiar with those around them communicating more. Looking forward to a terrific season after this awesome start.

Match Report

MVP

10-12 Boys Basketball

Won

66 - 23

Another dominant performance by the senior boys basketball team. The team refined its ways and put on an awesome second half by making great passing combinations to find the open man.

Adrian Narvais - 14 points, 4 rebounds, 2 blocks

Garang Bol - 18 points, 6 rebounds, 3 blocks

Levi Nia - 8 p[oints, 3 steals, 2 rebounds

Austin Matahau - 8 points, 3 rebounds, 3 steals.

A big game next week vs Mt Carmel.

Garang Bol

10-12 Girls Basketball

Loss

13-24

JTCC faced a tough loss against Thomas Hassal today, going down 13 points to 24. The absence of Georgina was felt throughout the game however, the team saw commendable efforts from all players, particularly Alexis, Annalise and Ella who were all pivotal in putting some points on the scoreboard. Despite their efforts, the girls ultimately fell short and were unable to overcome the deficit.

Alexis P

10-12 Boys Oz Tag

Win 6-5

Mother nature did it’s best to keep us away from game time but not enough to prevent Gus scoring a full field try from the kickoff on debut. The slippery conditions made life challenging for our links to gain good possession but they still managed to get through the holes from our middles. Coby even managed to score a few tries out wide which was the difference in the end. A special mention to King Mostyn for his “James Maloney Like” short balls which were unlucky not to result in some tries. A good team effort boys!

Coby Hilton

10-12 Girls Oz Tag

Win 9-1

Another dominant performance by the senior girls oztag team. The team refined its ways and put on an awesome second half by making great passing combinations to find the open player for runaway tries.

Grace O’Reilly: 3 Tries - Veronika Miziniak: 3 Tries - Bridget Shearer: 2 Tries - Ava Hilton: 1 Try

MVP: Veronika “Meep-Meep” Miziniak

Veronika  Miziniak

7-9 Girls Indoor Cricket

Bye

7-9 Boys Softball

Won 7 - 4

vs MAG

Great game by all in both batting and fielding. Great second innings of batting getting the maximum 5 runs.

Some excellent ground fielding and a killer throw to first by Nick Augustine was a highlight as well as his ability to steal bases.

MVP goes to Blake McKenzie for a tremendous reflex catch at 3rd base and which also lead to a double play out to limit the Magdalene 1st inning to one.

Blake McKenzie

7-9 Boys Volleyball

Loss 2-1

A close game today that could have gone either way. Strong spiking and few errors saw us win the first game, going away at the end. A form reversal in games 2 and 3 led to too many simple errors in communication and shot execution resulting in defeat.

Moni Junior Tumanuvao

7-9 Girls Volleyball

Loss 3-0

Today’s game was closer than the scoreline suggests with the JT girls only going down by a few points in each set. Excellent rallies by both teams were on display which encouraged our girls to develop their skills even further. There were also many opportunities to level the score however our nemesis today were many inaccurate serves and miscommunication on the court.

DIOCESAN AND PATHWAYS UPDATE

Good luck to our 3 JTCC representatives attending the Southern AFL 15’s Trial this Thursday, as well as our 3 girls Touch Teams competing on Friday at the Diocesan Touch Carnival.

Diocese Tennis Teams Qualifying Event

image4.jpg

This year Diocesan Tennis was early in the school calendar making training & team selection challenging. In true JT spirit we had students put their hands up to represent the College & a special shout out must go to our year 10 Appin girls who once again filled 3 of the 4 spots in our girls’ team. Due to court redevelopments at Beaton Park in Wollongong play was moved to Campbelltown, much to the disappointment of our senior players who have come accustomed to their regular trip down the coast for a day of tennis & Chickos lunch overlooking Wollongong City Beach.

The girls were unlucky with the draw coming up against the eventual winners St Mary’s in the first round. While the girls were out classed on the court, they should all be proud of the way they represented the College & a special mention must go to Breanna Kelly who led the team in her final year of eligibility. The boys team started strongly, winning their opening match against Magdalene College before coming up against the defending champions ERC who ended up going back-to-back winners. A big thank you to must go out to Jaydan Diamond who led the team at number one in his final appearance on the court for the College & Jordan Truckle who proved sporting ability on the footy field can cross over onto the tennis court. A great day was had by all!

Mr. McKenzie
