PRINCIPAL'S REPORT
The parable of the talents - how do we help our students explore and share their talents?
Last Sunday's Gospel reading (Matthew 25:14-30) is one that resonates strongly with me as an educator, as the message emphasises the importance of making the most of the talents we are given. In the parable, 3 servants are given 5, 2 & 1 talents to use and invest, and while the servants given 5 and 2 talents went out and multiplied their talents, the servant given one talent went and hid this talent for fear of losing it.
This parable encourages us to recognise and develop our God-given talents, whether they be skills, resources, or abilities. It underscores the idea that these gifts are not meant to be hoarded or buried but rather employed for the benefit of others and the greater good. By actively using and sharing our talents, we participate in God's plan and contribute to the well-being of the community.
As a Catholic College, we aim to provide an environment that supports students exploring and sharing their own gifts and talents, and to have the courage to continue to develop these well beyond their time at John Therry.
Outstanding HSC Art Express achievement
We Congratule Mr Steve Peters and our Year 12 Visual Arts Class who had 5 HSC Art express nominations, and 4 students selected. The best result ever for John Therry, and almost unheard of in any school. A truly outstanding result.
Students selected in Art Express include:
Achan Ajak ‘Stories of the Dark’ (Hazelhurst Arts Centre)
Angelica Estrada 'The Grain of the Present’ (Ngununggula, Southern Highlands Regional Gallery , Cowra Regional Art Gallery)
Lyric Jeanneret ‘Beyond the Lines’ (Virtual Exhibition VX)
Tess McEvoy-King ‘8 Second Rule’ (Tamworth Regional Gallery)
We also congratulate Montanna Taff whose work ‘Reflective Perspectives’ was nominated for HSC Art Express which in itself is an amazing achievment.
We will include photos in our next newsletter that will no doubt amaze you with the amazing talent (and hard work) of our students and teachers.
P & F Meeting - Tuesday 28th November 6:30pm
We welcome all parents to join us on the 28th November for our P & F meeting in the staff common room. We will discuss a range of current things happening around the College, and look for parent feedback on some important matters. These include possible uniform changes for the student sport jacket and winter jumper, and the College's mobile phone policy for 2024. We hope to see you there.
Year 12 Formal
We had a wonderful final farewell to our Year 12 students at their formal on Thursday 16th November. It is always a special occasion to see our Year 12 students graduate and the formal is an event that is a real milestone event in a young persons life. We will share photos when they are received back from our photographer as words cannot do justice to how wonderfully presentedour students were on this night. Ottimo House provded a lovely venue as seen below before students arrived.

We look forward to the HSC results being released on the 14th December and sharing morning tea with our Year 12 students on this day at the College.
