SPORT REPORT TERM 3 - 2019 Week 1

Congratulations to our Interzone finalists - a fantastic effort to make it into the final. Currently we are in the lead against Mount Carmel in the race for the MISA East Champion School.

Congratulations to our basketball squad who were Interzone champions. Well done to our runners up at Ultimate Frisbee, Softball and Rugby League. All teams contributed vital points to the MISA east championships.

In other good news, John Therry also sit at the top of the Interzone table after two terms. A fantastic effort by players and coaches. Lets keep our good run of form continuing in Semester 2.

Thank you to all players and coaches for the Term 2 season. 

We also began preparations for MISA trials in week 10 of last term. Students will be emailed a google form if they wish to trial for MISA Term 3. Please note any players trialing for rugby league will need a mouthguard and will also be required to complete a contact permission note (available from Mr Tran).

Olympic Guest Speaker: Nathan Katz

On Thursday the 25th of July, Nathan Katz visited John Therry to speak with year 9 to speak about the Tokyo Olympics and his achievements in the field of Judo. The talk was organised in conjunction with a new government initiative as they as looking to expose our athletes and inspire the next generation of athletes to get involved in sport. Nathan discussed his achievements, opportunities and sacrifices made to make it to the Olympic squad and we thank him for the visit and wish him all the best for Tokyo 2020.

WHAT IS THE BEST THING ABOUT BEING AN ELITE ATHLETE? I get to do the sport I love every day, I travel the world with some of my closest friends and family and get to pursue my passion and dreams 

FAVOURITE PLACE TO COMPETE AND WHY: Probably in Japan. It is the home of Judo and there is a very special and unique buzz to competing there. Added it will be the home for the next Olympics 

WHO IS YOUR SPORTING HERO: As a kid it was probably Lleyton Hewitt because of his heart and passion playing. Don't think I have a sporting "hero" now but am a huge fan of and draw inspiration from so many incredible athletes from Australia and around the world
