SWAG

Got SWAG?

Student Work and Greatness (SWAG) is your platform for student pieces. In each issue we showcase a sample of student work, from poetry to painting, photography to prose.
This week we celebrate the accomplishments of our 2023 Champfest Film Festival winners.

Champfest is a film festival run during Term 2 as a celebration of the Marist Theme for the year (Created + Called) and the Feast Day of St. Marcellin Champagnat.
There were two categories - a short film of two minutes and a feature film of five or more minutes.
This year's winners were:

Short film - Charlotte Russell of 10 Conolly 1
In Charlotte's short film she explores the importance of simplicity amongst the busyness of life. Her film employs a variety of clever cuts and cinematic techniques to capture the tonal shift as her protagonist moves from overwhelming responsibility to mindful tranquility.

Feature film - Ranniell Maningas of 10 Chisholm 2

Ranniell's feature film looks at the Marist Characteristics of A Love of Work, Family Spirit and Simplicity as his protagonist moves through the busyness of a week. His use of visual motifs, such as the clock, as well transitions and shots adds complexity to the film's overall narrative.

Again, congratulations to this year's winners. Champfest will return in 2024.
