PASTORAL PRESENTATIONS
Our pastoral programs aim to support student wellbeing by developing a wide range of qualities, skills and aspirations in our young people. On Thursday 31st August our Year 10,11 & 12 students heard from motivational speaker Michelle Lee, and our Year 7 and 8 students participated in a workshop "backflips against bullying.
Michelle Lee, ex student and first Australian Female to row across the Atlantic Ocean, shared her stories of hard work, preparation, and self belief to conquer some amazing challenges. Michelle talked about the many barriers that will come up anytime that you try something really significant, and the need to be able to confront these barriers, find ways around them and keep on going. Michelle had many powerful messages in her talk and it was wonderful to see an ex-student from John Therry taking on the world and following her dreams. We hope this inspires our students to dream big and make the most of their one wild and precious life!
Backflips against bullying is an anti-bullying program that addresses themes of bullying using parkour and acrobatics to engage students. This is an evidence based program run across the UK and Australia and supports the messages embedded in our PDHPE and Pastoral programs. It was certainly engaging and we will continue to ensure that we reinforce the messages in all aspects of College life.
