These young gentlemen make for a great team and between them, they got the job done with ease. MCCC put in a fair batting effort, but our bowlers kept them to just 55. Our feilding let us down at times, but the boys supported one another and kept their heads up. At no time did their team spirit wane. Our batting was outstanding. Newcomers to the sport were encouraged from the sidelines and made a great start to the innings. The rest of the team carried on skillfully, comfortably surpassing MCCC’s total.

Business as usual for the senior JT boys, with a dominant display of AFL against MCCC. A relentless midfield consisting of Darcy, Brendan, Coby and Ethan won possession easily and gave simple looks at the goal for our forwards. Our forwards were ruthless in attack and nailed most of their opportunities scoring 89 points. Goal scorers consisted of Angus (4), Riley (2), Diego, Brendan, Ethan (1) and Denniss (5). Special mention to our defenders Miguel, Ben and Lucas for only allowing 15 points while being a man down.

JT take out the Webb Cup once again.

The first round of MISA and the first time playing AFL  for many of the girls in the team, didn’t see us come away with the win, yet the girls still put in a solid effort and were competitive all game. It didn’t help that we unfortunately had to play short but this had no impact on our defence. The girls’ defence  was the highlight of the game, gaining possession from many strong defensive performances by all our girls. We have plenty of positives to take away from the game and some key things to work on moving forward. Great effort girls!

Round 1 vs St Benedicts showed some teething issues with the 9/10 MISA Boys Soccer team. 

Our opposition forced the long ball which we turned away, but one time in each half, the bounce of the ball was against us, and SBCC had two scoring opportunities which they converted.

JTCC played the more attractive style of football, but were stopped by two unorthodox defenders who bashed, and kicked the ball away on numerous occasions. There was some great combination play across all areas of the park, but we failed to convert our opportunities on goal, especially in the second half.

Came up against a tough opposition for a Round 1 game. The boys did well to keep getting back into the game with goals from Floilan Magalona and two from Cooper Marshall. A few lapses through the defensive line and some lucky ricochets led to their faster forward line being able to score quite easily. Further games together will lead to improvements in what promises to be an exciting and competitive season.

Ava Abi-Khattar

First round of MISA Soccer for the John Therry girls ended in a goalless stalemate. The scoreline did not however reflect the quality and sheer dominance of our team in the match. Throughout the match, the girls were creating great chances with some clear goal-scoring opportunities, but unfortunately, we weren’t able to convert them despite totalling around 6 shots in front of goal. Some really creative work in midfield with newly emerging talent Matilda Lamaro and star players Jorja Hohberg & Alice Stephenson linking up brilliantly time and time again. It was, however, the complete performance of Ava Abi-Khattar who debuted in the CDM position for the first time that really stood out. Ava’s work rate and consistency in both offensive and defensive plays, partnered up with the solidity of the rest of the backline ensured we did not concede any goals and the majority of the game was played in the opposition half. Decent start for the girls as we head into Round 2 hoping to come out with a win next time.

The Intermediate Netball was faced with a player shortage for our first game, thank you to Mia Leech-Morrison who was willing to come along at late notice so we could fill our team. Mia played exceptionally well given she had not trained with us, thank you Mia. It took a while for us to warm up and find a combination on the court that worked against St Pats but our persistence paid off in the end. Entering the 4th quarter the score was 30-6, we managed to win the fourth quarter 8-5, I am confident it will be a much closer game the next time we face St Pats with our full team. I was proud of the JT girls, their effort was sustained no matter the score, they accepted any position on the court they were given. I was impressed by the diverse level of skills each player has. It is not easy to adapt to a position you are not familiar with, but each player did so competently. Well done Team, I am looking forward to the term ahead.

A special mention to Hannah Epple who attended MISA Netball today and supported us as an umpire, a very challenging task with which Hannah did with great confidence and competence, thank you Hannah.

The first round of MISA Netball today saw the girls learning to play efficiently as a team, and working out each other's strengths and plays on the court. The first quarter started strong in the defensive end keeping St Pats out, however the remainder of the game saw JT quickly be defeated. The few times JT were able to successfully get the ball in the goal circle, Emma successfully made a shot. I look forward to the girls working together as a team next week!

What a match! These boys were put into bat first and came out swinging. The run rate slowed when adrenalin got the better of our batters and MAC converted their chances in the field. Again, our boys kept their spirits up and continued to support each other throughout the innings. They steadied the run rate and came back to set a modest total of 62. MAC came out confident, but our bowlers made the ball sing. JTCC were great in the field this week. Catches, run outs, boundaries stopped - the positive energy in the field was palpable. MAC batters pushed on, narrowing our lead to just 11 runs with one over to go. Needing just two runs off the final ball to tie the game, our bowlers were under pressure. A great ball accompanied by magic in the field resulted in a runout and a nail-biting win for our JTCC team!! Outstanding effort boys…WHAT A GAME!!

On a warm Tuesday afternoon, the senior JT boys travelled to Camden to seal a convincing victory against WAC. From the get go, Brendan, Riley, Ethan and Darcy were ruthless in the middle and consistently found our forwards who capitalised on every opportunity. Our backline of Ben, Miguel, Lucas, Preston and Marshall were very strong again this week, only allowing one goal. Goal scorers this week consisted of Riley (3), Angus, Diego, Beau (1) and Denniss (5). Final Score 11.1 (67) - 1.0 (6)

Another extremely strong defensive game by our girls. Our midfielders and defenders were outstanding in their tackling and pressure on the ball. Even though we unfortunately didn’t walk away with the win, the score line could have been far worse with the lack of possession we had. Moving forward, continuing to work on our attack is a goal for the girls and once we improve our attack I believe a win will definitely come our way.

9/10 Boys MISA Football -The boys were keen for a positive start after a disappointing loss last week. We started well with some attacking combinations and Jaidon Cosmidis was able to head a ball into the goal off a free kick. We went into the break with the one nil lead but handling the Thomas Hassell team was a handful. Some poor behaviour and arrogant behaviour was causing disruptive play and the JT boys failed to keep their heads clear of the mess. We contested a ball at the defensive third and poor positional play led to a THAC shot on goal and the game was levelled up. More disorganised play a few minutes later saw a ball fail to get cleared from the goal area, which resulted in Man of the Match Norman Hachem securing the ball, but a penalty was given. THAC executed and took a 2 nil lead with 10 minutes to play. Poor sportsmanship and time wasting dominated the final minutes of play which dissolved our chances going forwards. 

Some dominant goalkeeper plays earned Norman Hachem player of the match honours for his goal line saves, clearances and distribution out from the back. Magdalene next week with a depleted line-up due to Year 10 camp. The odds are stacked against us, but the boys are looking forward to the contest.

Despite having numerous chances to score, we suffered a narrow loss again today. By my count, we had two headed opportunities from close range, 3 one on one chances, one of which hit the post, a long range drive that would have beat the keeper if it went either side of him and one clearance off their line.

Perhaps it was this knowledge, that they were lucky to be in the lead, that led to some of the most unsportsmanlike behaviour seen on a MISA sports field. The language, time wasting, poor challenges and abuse directed towards our players was very disappointing. Well done to our boys for not engaging for the most part, despite justified frustration.

A brilliant display of relentless work rate and drive on the pitch by the JT girls today as we finished our second round game with a 2-0 victory over Thomas Hassall Anglican College. The game seemed against our favour from the get-go with some fantastic attacking displays from our opposition with two girls in particular running the show. It was evident that their dominance in the first half was getting to our team, with frustrations leading to desperate clearances, unrealistic long range efforts and some good opportunities being squandered. Despite their best efforts, we managed to finish the first half without conceding a goal thanks to some heroic saves from goalkeeper and captain Darcie Bennett. The girls went into the second half with an improved mentality and composed approach which saw some creative chances slowly begin to blossom. The game continued intensely back and forth with some vital defending from both sides until we won a free kick right outside their box. Alice Stephenson who previously scored a screamer of a free kick in the Bill Turner Cup, stepped up and made it two for two with an astounding finish. This goal really elevated team spirit with the girls pushing harder and pressing tighter which eventually led to a mistake from their keeper, allowing Jorja Hohberg to tap in a brilliant cross from Bella Ribicic. The final whistle was blown promptly after and the JT girls continue what is an exciting start to the MISA Soccer season.

The Tri-series kicked off against a tough Mount Carmel side at Eschol Park. Mitch Lane (Captain) and Chayse Davies (Vice-Captain) led the way for the U15’s team with stout defence and exceptional control in attack. Overall the team had a solid start, however there are numerous improvements that must be made before the next game. Lapses in defence were fortunately not capitalised on by Mount Carmel, which was fortunate for the JT boys.

A beautiful sunny game today saw the girls tested by the rare winter sun. With no reserves to replenish the team, the girls played their very best, and at times had equal scores with Broughton. The goal end tried some new tactics that allowed JT to make a comeback after the first half. However right at the end they scored a few too many which resulted in a loss.
