PRINCIPALS REPORT

John Therry Cyclic Inquiry

As part of our Dicoesan planning and improvement framework, every 4 years each school undertakes a cyclic inquiry process to look deeply at how we have progressed, and what our priorities should be moving forward. Next Monday and Tuesday we welcome an external panel to the school to learn more about how things work at John Therry. This will include visiting classrooms, talking with teachers, students, support staff and importantly parents.

There is the opportunity for parents to come to school for some morning tea and discuss with the panel your thoughts on how you are finding John Therry as a parent and what you would like the College to focus on more in the coming years. Parent sessions run from 12-12:30pm on Monday 24th July, or 11-11:30am on Tuesday 25th July. If you can make this and would like to be involved, please complete the very brief form below. We would love to hear your voice!

Cultural Diversity

One of the great gifts of John Therry is the diversity of student backgrounds that make up our community. Our students are lucky to get to know people from all different cultures and backgrounds and learn that many of the stereotypes and prejudices out there don't hold up when we get to know people. Most importantly, John Therry has a wonderful culture where this diversity is embraced and our students are comfortable celebrating their culture. This was highlighted in two key events at the end of Term 2, being our NAIDOC assembly, and cultural performances that took place on the last day of term.

NAIDOC Assembly

On Thursday 29th June we celebrated NAIDOC week at our College assembly. Naidoc week falls in the first week of the school holidays and the theme this year was 'for our elders'.

Through NAIDOC week, we celebrate the remarkable gifts of diversity that enrich our community and, in particular, honor and acknowledge the invaluable contributions of the Aboriginal culture. At the heart of our community is the various cultures, backgrounds, traditions, and perspectives we each bring, and it is through embracing our diversity that we truly flourish.

As a catholic community we commit ourselves to continue a journey of learning, understanding, and respect of all cultures. We aim to be a community that recognises and appreciates the invaluable contributions of the Aboriginal culture and all other cultures that make up the tapestry of our community. By embracing our differences, we can forge a stronger, more inclusive future, where everyone feels valued, heard, and empowered.

7-10 Parent teacher interviews - zoom

On Monday 24th July, we have scheduled our 7-10 PTS Interviews to run by zoom. To ensure staff can make it home safely for these interviews, we have adjusted bell times for the day to finish at 2:40pm as per our Tuesday bell times. Buses will run at normal times and students will be supervised until the usual end of day.

Further information about the interviews and booking can be found in compass. Feel free to contact the office if you have any issues with this.
